To clean before a cleaner comes?

We are currently dog sitting for a friend of a friend, and they are home tomorrow pm.

Their weekly cleaner is due on a Wednesday morning anyway so the house will get a good clean before they arrive, but I'm planning to wipe the sinks/run the vacuum round/mop before she comes. DH thinks I'm nuts but I don't want the cleaner reporting us to them for being mucky (it's quite an undertaking keeping the place clean day to day with several dogs coming in and out in wet weather, but trying my best)

Am I unreasonable to do this?

Completely unreasonable.

Catza · 10/09/2024 14:21

Of course you are totally unreasonable. The cleaner is paid to clean. What is the point of hoovering and mopping if she is going to do it? None.
You are doing these people a favour by sitting their dogs. If they are unhappy about their own dogs messing up the floors and decide it is your failing somehow, then they are welcome to find alternative arrangements next time.

Tidy yes, clean no.

This.
I wouldn't leave the worktop splattered in food or a big dump of crumbs unless they happened just before I left the house. But I'd check for an deal with any visible skids in the toilet bowl or toothpaste in the sink in case someone (obv not me) hadn't already dealt with it.

Mostly I'd make sure the way was clear for the cleaner to get to as many surfaces as possible - clothes horse put away etc.

mynameiscalypso · 10/09/2024 14:53

I tend to clean kitchen surfaces and the sink but I don't vacuum or mop.

DeedlessIndeed · 10/09/2024 14:56

Clear floors and surfaces and any egregious messes as mentioned by a previous poster.
Take out bins, any recycling etc and put in fresh bin bags.
As for the rest; leave to the cleaner!

Tidy is normal, cleaning is mad. What do you think they pay a cleaner for?

Well I've never been lucky enough to employ one so tbh I don't know what's in their remit and what isn't 😂

I’ll give you a hint: the answer’s in the name.

They come into a house and make the grubby bits clean. You wouldn’t want to do the poor person out of a job, would you?

Topseyt123 · 10/09/2024 15:26

You are being totally unreasonable and ridiculous. What do you think the cleaner is paid to do? Hint: the clue is in the name! 😉

Just make sure things are reasonably tidy so that they can get around easily and clean. Why mop and vacuum only to have them repeat the job?

gamerchick · 10/09/2024 15:30

Tidy, make sure things are cleared and make sure there aren't any skids in the bog. Other than that, you don't need to clean on top.

thoroughlypickled · 10/09/2024 16:21

Ok, message received 😂

Unreasonable. Tidy up so they can hoover and dust easily but you don't actually clean before the cleaner comes!
