In Spain - friend issue with hotel room

Morning lovelies
we’re day 3 on our holidays.
On the morning after our first night, my friend was making a cup of tea in her room, and the ceiling collapsed by the bathroom, leaving a large puddle of water on the floor. She was shaken but uninjured.
So yesterday, she had to repack her case and they moved her to another room (of the same standard)
My friend doesn’t articulate herself very well, and gets very anxious, so I’m her official spokesperson, so to speak.
The manager wasn’t available yesterday, but today he’s back - we’ve yet to speak to him, but what do you think is fair to ask for due to the inconvenience and disruption? I was thinking a refund of the first night’s stay (about £160)
AIBU?

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask for the night’s fees to be refunded. That was alarming and potentially dangerous. Sometimes asking for what you feel is reasonable compensation in a pleasant way gets you what you want and actually avoids a lot of acrimonious complaining.

People saying it was resolved because they moved you 🤔 Please…a ceiling fell through, it’s not like the light switch in the bathroom wasn’t working. I’d be expecting a room upgrade as a minimum.

I was in the Philippines and it was raining like mad whilst we were out, we returned back to hotel to see the walls running down with water and puddles on the floor (we had just checked in and popped out for food and nothing major was unpacked thankfully) so naturally I asked for a room change but they tried to put me in the same category but smaller sized room!

That certainly did not go down well with me and told them so, so they upgraded us to a better room and gave us a free meal voucher. This is the sort of resolution I’d be looking for at a minimum

I would hope the manager would offer something as consolation, she could've been hurt, plus the shock. A voucher, free meal, bottle of bubbly at the least. X

I wouldn't ask for anything either. The issue is sorted and you can carry enjoying your holiday
