Explanation needed for my title!
So for the first time ever I've spotted someone I know on here
They have exaggerated and lied on their thread .
Why do people do this when looking for advice !

You're deliberately making changes to your story, how do you know the other person hasn't?

And I'm sure it's not hypocritical for you to not to be 100% truthful while criticising someone else for doing the same thing!

Nailed it!

@Wonkywinky Is it about you and if so have you replied on it? I think I’d have subtly let them know I’d seen it!

I think it's past a few people's bedtime.

They are not looking for advice more for people to agree with them that they are ‘right’.

A huge percentage of people posting on Mumsnet are posting just for validation of their own views. They either have a lack of confidence in their own views and/or are seeking someone to validate something that their own conscience or family/friends don't think was right.

There's a huge number of threads when you ask why they are asking, say, AIBU, that claim to be 'curious' about what others think. No they are not. They are looking for people to agree with them so they feel validated. This is sometimes good like when a partner is gaslighting. This is also bad when they are actually looking for is validadation of their 'classist', racist, ageist, body shaming, etc, views.
