To report neighbours?

Both their recycling and black bins are always heaving and it’s rare the lids are ever closed, now we’ve started having windy weather so much of their rubbish has blown onto mine and my neighbours share driveway. It’s disgusting.

I also don’t feel comfortable talking to them. I’ve gone round to give them a parcel that was left at mine by accident, they opened the door, snatched the parcel and closed the door without saying a word.

If you don't feel comfortable talking to them that's your problem.

I'd lose respect for myself if I couldn't just knock on their door and ask them to sort it out.

Unless you can get your other neighbours to have a word, you have no choice but to report I suppose.

LauritaEvita · 09/09/2024 18:15

Who would you report them to?

Because they slammed the door in my face last time. Would you find that approachable?

The council I guess, not sure if it’s classed as fly tipping.

The council is unlikely to care that much....

I can’t imagine the council where I live getting involved in this. I reckon they’d just advise trying to speak to neighbours to resolve. We can report fly tipping in order that the refuse team can come and remove it but it doesn’t sound as though that’s what you’re after here.

Big whoop

So they took the parcel and slammed the door

They didn't spit in your eye and shut your head in it.

If you can't approach them like an adult, get someone else to do it perhaps?

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 09/09/2024 18:48

The council should be already aware as they collect it

Paisleydad · 09/09/2024 18:59

'The council should be already aware as they collect it.'

I end up clearing up behind them after our bin team have been as often as not.

'The council' are unlikely to be aware, it's probable that refuse collection is contracted out to a commercial provider.

Well aren’t you quite the hard ass

Yes, knocking on a neighbour's door and having a polite word like an adult, makes me a proper gangster 🙄

JC03745 · 09/09/2024 19:20

Put a large rock or brick on the lid so it doesn't blow open.

LlynTegid · 09/09/2024 19:23

The last parcel you will ever take in for them or take round should be the response.

Most councils will do nothing.

Irridescantshimmmer · 09/09/2024 19:39

Take photos and make a list (log) of the litter on your driveway as well as images of your neighbours open bins and post the details to your councils website where you should be able to upload the images.

Once the council have this data, which is evidence, they can issue warnings as well as fines.

Councils should not ever ignore issues like this because it can cause rats and vermin into the area.
