To not understand Lidl clothing

I don't mean normal looking clothes from Lidl but the Lidl branded t-shirts and trainers that seem to be popular with young people. This isn't a judgement thing - people can wear what they like but young people like that are so image conscious it clearly has some kind of cultural meaning, I have no idea what that is though, can anyone shed some light?!

People like Lidl

TeaAndCakeFTW · 09/09/2024 07:00

It's ironic isn't it?

Or a statement against brands, I'd imagine.

SingingRobin · 09/09/2024 07:01

My duaghters that normally are really picky about clothes love the lidl sliders.

They were both excited too when Tesco did similar.... Mad.

Jjiillkkf · 09/09/2024 07:02

I figured it would be something to that effect, I wondered if there was more nuance to it that's all...

It's just an anti brand thing

My DS loves it. He thinks its hilarious. He gets commented on his Lidl socks a lot ))

SingingRobin · 09/09/2024 07:11

Ah yes mine had the socks and proudly wore them. I guess it's a trend like anything else...

itsgettingweird · 09/09/2024 07:13

Round here it's the hats!

Aldi, Lidl and even ikea!

GlassRat · 09/09/2024 07:15

I have the sliders, trainers and t-shirt. Yes, it's an anti-brand thing.

Gotosleep91 · 09/09/2024 08:10

It's just PR isn't it - if you love lidl its a bit of fun.

Greggs and Tesco have done similar

I bought a 'Tesco Finest' onesie for DD when she was born (I thought 'Tesco Basics' would have been a bit mean 😂)

Jjiillkkf · 09/09/2024 09:31

Well, I wholeheartedly approve that anti-brandism has gone mainstream with the kids then.

Didn’t Gola trainers start out as cheap trainers that are now 😎 cool.

I think it’s irony… Lidl is cheap but works so why spend more.

JC03745 · 09/09/2024 09:37

Strangely, I was wondering the same recently when I pointed out ALL the branded crap to DH and said 'who on earth would buy this???'
Well now I know!
