...to despair the superficial and crass role models and dreams being followed these days?

Well, just that really. I had a scroll through some channels today (rare occurrence, don't watch much tv) and the ones I would usually by pass I watched a bit.

One was the Kardashians and their dramas. Oh my word, the problems of the super rich and their emotions.

Another was love island, groups of pouty girls and men, neither with a brain cell between them, only interested in looks etc.

Of course I know not all young people idolise this sort of shit but sadly many do. Looking like them had become more accessible and money they don't have is spent on false augmented features.

I'm no prude at all and totally get if people want to go under the knife for self confidence etc. However, seeing young girls having lip fillers, botox, boob jobs in their teens is just awful. They are so obsessed with wrapover white teeth and the above, wearing the brands the Kardashians flout yet aren't working, have no money, yet get into debt to try and prove they are in the same elite.

I hoped after the pandemic this nonsense would stop but society soon returns to social media and idolising 'celebrities'.

Fortunately I do know a lot of young people don't subscribe to this altruism, are more intelligent and will go on to do us proud. In fact, they see through the superficiality and good on them!

I do however feel concerned and see Mums following this sad trend and their daughters copy off them, false eyelashes and nails at a young age is their norm. Just why?

I don't know why but it's not always either/or.

My son went to a very prestigious university and so many of the intelligent and successful young women there, also choose this look.

Each to their own really.

It'll pass like all trends do.

As an aside, none of us need to know how often you watch TV. The fact you felt the need to tell us makes you sound a bit 'virtuous', which kind of subtracts from any point you're trying to make here.

People have always idolised celebrities, its just so much more accessible now with social media. Just don't look if you don't like it.

The problem is how fake and awful they look, damaging their bodies along the way.

I wonder what the young people who buy into all this botox, fillers and fakeness will look like in their 40s and 50s. Will they just keep having it done until they are predominantly plastic 😅 I think we are in for some interesting looking people in a few years. OP did you mean to use the word "altruism"? Probably the exact opposite of what you are describing.

Agree about the lack of good role models.

I remember growing up in the 80’s and watching Cagney and Lacey on TV, they were my role models.
