Anyone think Vinted is full of chancers?

To be fair, I've sold hundreds of things and have bought a few things too and most of the time I've had no problems.

I've now had someone raise a dispute. She bought some children's clothes for precisely £1.63. Cost a lot more than that new. The clothes in particular were used no more than 3 times. I can say this for a fact because my husband bought these particular clothes for a holiday and they were too small so hardly got any use.

I offered a refund but of course she doesn't want to send them back because sure of the postage.

Sorry I should have said. The buyer is saying that the clothes are very worn out.

£1.63 for more than one item of baby clothing and complaining? People have no shame 🫣

Ilovepotato · 08/09/2024 17:53

I’ve only used vinted once and it was fine -but I have seen quite a few people posting saying that buyers were scamming them. (Saying wrong item in parcel or arrived damaged/different from photos)

ScienceGreek · 08/09/2024 18:03

I buy most of my kids clothes from vinted & for the most part, it’s been a positive experience. Most of the clothing has been in near new condition.
There’s been a few things I’ve received which were described as being in ‘very good’ condition, but upon receipt, they have been satisfactory at best. One set of baby pjs even had poo stains on them🤢

I’ve sold lots on vinted too.
The most annoying thing is buyers who think I’m a big retail company like asos - they buy something and ask if I can send it the same day/next day as they’re going away on holiday in a few days time! Honestly🙄

feathermucker · 08/09/2024 18:05

I've got items up for £2.00 and a few people have offered £1 or £1.50. One said she couldn't afford it with the postage (offered £1 rather than £2) and said I should lower it because of this. Lots of chancers!

Star81 · 08/09/2024 18:06

It doesn’t surprise me.

Stick to the send back for refund and if they refuse Vinted will not side with the buyer. You’ll get bad feedback no doubt but can respond to it so all can see saying refund offered but buyer refused to send back.

I got a message of abuse today because someone asked me to reserve an item until she got paid on Friday & she’d buy it at the weekend.

Still hadn’t bought Sunday morning, so unreserved and someone else bought.

Too many skint chancers who believe the world owes them something.

Autumn1990 · 08/09/2024 18:08

Just refuse to refund unless they return it.

AHFBridport · 08/09/2024 18:09

I mostly sold on Vinted but the last two items I sent were disputed for pathetic/spurious reasons ('strong smell of perfume' which you can't really argue with as it can't be photographed) and it's put me right off. Not worth the effort of listing/packaging/sending. Charity shops can have my good quality cast-offs instead.

I absolutely agree. You sell things in good faith. Someone gets a bargain, you get a bit of money back. Hardly feels worth it when people still moan when they got a nearly brand new item for less than 2 quid,

Indeed and presumably it was £1.63 because she got a bundle discount….

disgraceful shameless behaviour

wetpebbles · 08/09/2024 18:45

it's hard to judge online whether clothes are going to fit, if they smell or are worn, a couple of coats i've bought have been amazing but most other stuff is disappointing and not worth trying to resell so i've not really saved money

I couldn't see how either of us could prove anything either way so I just refunded and blocked. And then the SAME THING happened with the next sale, after three years of no issues at all and five star reviews. So odd, it made me wonder if some buyers alert each other to soft-touch sellers who won't counter a dispute. But it seems such a waste of time. Anyway, that's me done with Vinted, hopefully this kind of behaviour won't take over and ruin what was a good thing.

JLM1981 · 08/09/2024 21:11

Ah that's such a shame. I've bought and sold hundreds of items and I've only had this happen once. Someone said one item looked 'pulled' despite it being a bundle of 10 Next items (dresses, tops etc) in great condition for £4 I offered to refund if they returned. They refused of course as they were never going to return the lovely bundle for £4. They gave me 3 stars and I was gutted as I had over 100 5 star reviews. It happens and after a few more purchases or sales you don't see the feedback as recent. Don't give up. Most buyers are genuine 😊 there's always one....

WhenSunnyGetsBlue · 08/09/2024 21:14

I buy and sell all my baby clothes off vinted. I always put in an offer, as the market is so saturated. I don't mind when buyers do the same to me. It's a market place, it's in the buyers interest to get the lowest price possible and the sellers to get the highest. There's no pressure to accept an offer that is too low and (provided your not writing a sob story etc) no harm in putting in an offer below the asking price. I have found that baby clothes are nearly always in immaculate condition. As a seller I will not sell anything I wouldn't be happy to receive. I've not been so successful with adult clothes - that's pretty hit or miss. Overall vinted has saved me so much money. I think it's so much better for the environment too. (I hate fast fashion!)

I have had the exact same 'strong smell of perfume' and it baffled me as the top was brand new, never worn!

Sounds like a scam that you can’t prove isn’t true!
