To hate LED headlights!

Don’t get me wrong, I love them in terms of my own visibility, it’s fantastic, especially on dark country roads but they absolutely blind other oncoming drivers to the point that I don’t think it is safe or fair. Any newer car coming towards you at night these days is dazzlingly bright. Just switched to a new car (Audi, so notoriously bright headlights..) and I constantly get flashed by people thinking that I have my full beams on. They’re rightfully annoyed but I can’t do anything about it!

They're actually bad for our health and terrible for wildlife. Dreadful invention.

OhLookAStrawberry · 07/09/2024 21:38

Hate them! Might as well just have full beam on all the time anyway because there's no bloody difference

MountUnpleasant · 07/09/2024 21:39

Ask to get your lights changed!

It's really everybody else's lights OP needs changed

Muchtoomuchtodo · 07/09/2024 21:39

Check that your lights are set at the correct angle. If they’re not it can make it worse for oncoming drivers

Stopandlook · 07/09/2024 21:40

Yep my car has these too. YANBU

How would I do that? They’re always set on automatic mode and orient themselves depending on light levels and conditions.

I really think there needs to be legislation about this. It’s so dangerous and it’s completely unnecessary.

I don’t know to be honest! Checking with my local garage would be my first step

She said she keeps getting flashed at because of her own LED lights!

Fully agree!

It's awful to so blinded by oncoming lights!

Lammveg · 07/09/2024 21:49

I saw someone else comment that you flash someone you think has their beams on and they flash you back and give you an xray lol

This^
but I absolutely agree with you about them

BIossomtoes · 07/09/2024 21:58

I no longer drive after dark for this reason. Definitely reasonable.

pinkstripeycat · 07/09/2024 22:01

All headlights can be lowered even LEDs.

If they are dazzling people you’ve got them set too high. It’s really dangerous and you would be prosecuted if your headlights caused a crash

I absolutely hate it, we live in the city so it’s rare that I have to drive on dark roads but when I do it’s never a relaxing or pleasant experience..

Get the headlight alignment checked at any MOT station, no doubt they’ll be absolutely fine though.

ClockworkDisaster · 07/09/2024 22:06

They can be so blinding. The headlights on my car are now so poor in comparison to everyone else’s so I do tend to avoid driving that particular car at night. Frustrating as it’s by far my most economical car! Even when the lights come behind me it’s just as bad as they seem to project further along the road than my own effectively putting a shadow in front of my car. Although I do find it amusing when I go past a wall or thick hedge as the shadow projected looks like Shrek’s head lol.

Yes.. I have no doubt that they’ll be fine but I’ll give the dealership a ring anyway on Monday morning and see if there’s anything they can do. I won’t hold my breath though!

Completely agree with you. I try to avoid driving in the dark, thankfully I rarely have to.

Other than check the alignment, which any MOT station can do there’s nothing else. They’re fully legal so just get on with it.

I mostly drive on unlit country roads and I like them. We have controls in the cars that means we can angle them nearer the road, not so much in the distance at other cars. They are perfectly safe if adjusted properly for conditions and load in the car. Just because drivers don’t adjust their lights, I don’t see why we should all suffer. Town driving on lit roads could almost be done with a candle. It’s easy. In the country I need to see clearly as wild animals are unpredictable.

bluecomputerscreen · 07/09/2024 22:15

for a moment I thought you mean those headlights people wear Blush

You don’t have factory fitted LEDs which you can adjust the beam level from within the car.
