It is our one year anniversary! We have two DC we very rarely get time to spend together as it is. Family have very kindly had both DC so we can have a weekend together. I have been so excited to spend time with him he has text me during the day about the beautiful meal he was going to cook us. Fast forward to the evening when both DC have been dropped off. His dad has turnt up with an anniversary card and DH has invited him to stay for dinner! So our romantic meal without DC is now a meal for three AIBU to feel really pissed off? Or should l be of been welcoming for his dad to stay for dinner?

Problem aside, I never understood why people who aren’t celebrating an anniversary buy cards/gifts for a couple that are. I do not give a shit if you’re celebrating 1 year or 50. I was at your wedding that was enough.

Oh YANBU. Idiots…

If he can't say no to him, then why didn't he just say 'Dad, as you know I'd normally invite you to stay and join us for dinner, but today is our anniversary, and I've planned a romantic meal just for me and OP, perhaps you'd like to come round next .... instead?' That way it would have been a non event, but instead he behaves like an absolute idiot, upsets his wife, and causes an argument into the bargain, what a twat!

Glad to hear you got away at least for one night OP!
