If you were going to put stuff in a neighbours bin on the night before collection would you ask beforehand if it was ok? Or would you just do it?

Yes I would expect people to ask permission to use our bins.

RishiIsACuntWaffle · 06/09/2024 19:25

Absolutely. I always ask if bulky. If was the odd thing and already out for collection I may just drop it in. But our collection location isn't at the house.

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 06/09/2024 19:26

I would. The only time I don’t ask is when walking and I see a discarded bottle or lager can and the blue bins are out, I’ll just lob this 1 item of street rubbish into the nearest blue bin.

Probably, but if I’d already put them out and there was space I’d not be bothered

DogInATent · 06/09/2024 19:31

No. But we're on very good terms with our neighbours. They were witnesses at our wedding.

(oh dear, did I cross the streams on Mumsnet, feed after midnight, etc. etc. t by saying that? 😂)

OhmygodDont · 06/09/2024 19:34

I’d expect them to ask. Because often I’ve still got rubbish to put in it in the morning. So even if it was out I’d still be topping it up.

Ozanj · 06/09/2024 19:35

Depends how much rubbish they put in

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 06/09/2024 19:36

Yes, I’d expect them to but wouldn’t care much if they didn’t.

If it has space then they may as well use it.

leapinglizard1234 · 06/09/2024 19:37

Yes .. I often put my out but whip a bag on when it's out so will expect there to be space . I have had this happen before and will give it back to them 🤷‍♀️

Vitriolinsanity · 06/09/2024 19:54

Yes and it's an ongoing problem for me with neighbours next door but one. Like the PP I put my black bin out the night before and often have a full inside bin that I want to add. Only to find they've overfilled it so my bag won't fit.

Have you asked them to stop doing it?

As far as I'm aware putting your rubbish in some one else's bin without permission is actually classed as a form of fly tipping and is illegal.

Stirmish · 06/09/2024 20:22

Yes I would

My neighbours moved abroad for a bit so rented their house out to various neighbours

I was so pissed off when one man got his DD out their recycling in my bin I went outside and told him to take it back out again Grin

I have never been that petty before but I hated how he shouted at his young DC at times

Stirmish · 06/09/2024 20:23

He actually stood to the side and made her put it in. Stupid man

BankHolidayReset · 06/09/2024 20:29

I always ask my neighbour and only put in dry stuff not a bin that may leak and stink the bin out.
