To have never heard of the "glitch in the Matrix" phenomena?

So today I washed the cover of the dogs bed and hung it on the line before school run. I came home from school and the bed was still in the machine! I know I hung it out because Nextdoor have got a new robotic lawnmower and I remember seeing it in their lawn. No one else is home.

Was telling husband tonight because we joke my peri menopause is rotting my brain. He said of that's like a glitch in the Matrix! wtf. I've never heard that before.

Have you heard or experienced this? I prefer to think I'm loosing the plot I think!

Yes but in IRL context it's dejavu (for the purpose of explaining it to OP). I've seen the first film more times than I can count, I know what it means there ;)

It’s the opposite of what you’ve said. The OP isn’t described Deja vu, but in the film that’s what a glitch is.

IRL a glitch in the matrix is something impossible or unexplainable but still mundane.

@fizzymizzy yes but that's how it's explained in the film, The Matrix.

Not that I'm trying to be confusing lol!

The matrix is explained as Dejavu?

@Bluebellsinthewind I'm stunned by your knowledge. Thank you for your contribution (too much?) Grin

Ahh. I've never seen the Matrix movies. That's the plan for the weekend then. To catch up. I've just done a quick search and loads come
Up. I fear my ironing will be a glitch in the Matrix if I don't get off mums net! Loving all the examples xxx

The first movie is excellent. The rest are 😳

Yes I’m a fan of the film too.
But the dog bed wasn’t Deja vu? So in the context of the situation OP was in, she told this is a glitch in the matrix moment - telling her it means Deja vu really wouldn’t have made any sense

Thank you - explained it better than me! Thought I was going mad with this PP but couldn’t explain as well as you

Crunchymum · 06/09/2024 14:44

Deja vu is completely different.

If you find this stuff interesting then have a look at the "Mandela Effect" - fascinating.

Yes, Neo brushes off the cat as just having dejavu (after asking if anyone 'saw that') & Trinity stops walking & tells him to explain exactly what he's seen then explains that something has been changed. Ie there's no such thing as dejavu in the Matrix, something really HAS happened again.

Ime it's used for both. As for OP I imagine she dreamed the action - something both me & my middle son & my mum do so not actually dejavu at all.

Obviously they're all tricks of the mind or explicible cos we aren't actually in the Matrix ;)

I think...

Yes! Happened to me this week. I bought a pack of rulers for my son’s pencil case. I remember opening them (there were three), putting one into his pencil case and the others away in a drawer in our kitchen. He came home from school on Tuesday saying he needed a ruler and could I buy one. There wasn’t one in his pencil case, nor did I have the spare two in the drawer. Literally invented that entire memory!!

I was cooking some pasta on my gas hob, it had been cooking for a few minutes, went to get something out of the fridge, turned back and another gas ring was lit. I had not turned it on. The original one was still on.

If you like glitches in the matrix look into quantum immortality, freaky stuff!

No. In RL is is something inexplicable. For example, seeing a bough snap from a tree and fall, but stop mid air. Or a bird suspended in the sky mid-flap, not moving, just there. Or a reflection in a mirror that does not corespond to what the thing being reflected is doing.

YouLookinSusBro · 06/09/2024 15:57

Happened to me recently on a train. Pulled into the same station twice a couple of minutes apart. Unfortunately I was alone in the carriage so no one around to talk to about it, was quite freaky

confusedabouthormones · 06/09/2024 19:01

Fabulous! I've totally fallen down the rabbit hole here with this one.
