To ask what to do with phone access in NYC?

I am currently in NY. I have a UK mobile with a Tesco contract and I feel so limited by what my phone can do! My bank has even frozen my account due to the foreign transactions, and I can't text them to tell them it's me!!

What do other UK visitors to NY do? I had the same problem when I was here 6 years ago!!

I speak to my phone provider before travelling to add a roaming package and tell the bank in advance.

Does your phone provider have an online chat service? If yes, you can use the hotel WiFi to chat to them about adding a roaming package to your account.

Once done you can call the bank. Or use the bank card to withdraw mo ey from an ATM, withdrawal fee will be added as well as usual charges.

I'm going to do that from now on - I've been caught out twice 😮

Bank is sorted, just need to call mobile provider and I can't do that until the morning (NYC time).

I bought a sim via Amazon last time with a certain amount of data on. Few days I’d just put the charge
