Chest pain advice

I say pain. It's more like an ache/pressure feeling on the left of my chest around the heart area. It isn't severe and it comes and goes. Noticed it for about a week. No other symptoms. I know it probably needs checking out as soon as you say chest pain the advice seems to immediately be a&e and I really don't think it's an a&e issue because it's intermittent, non severe and most likely a muscle strain.
Wwyd? And has anyone experienced anything like this before? What did it turn out to be?

Well you're not dying as it's been a week, so I'd go to GP. If they think it's necessary they'll send you on to A&E.

My thoughts exactly. But I keep having visions of my arteries being clogged up or something. How would they even test for something like that?

Please go and get checked. I had an embolism for 3 days and the walk in told me I'd be fine to drive half an hr to A&E. The clot has to travel up from your leg to your lung then heart to cause problems so obviously they'd rather see you sooner but it's not always instant. You will have an elevated d dimer if it is a clot, don't leave until they give you thinners if this happens. I was fobbed off with costochondria and sent home because they only did an xray and ignored the elevated d dimer.

Signs of heart attack are different for women than they are for men.

"Chest pain or discomfort: This can feel like pressure, fullness, squeezing, or pain in the center or left side of the chest. It can last for more than a few minutes or come and go."

This discomfort can carry on over several days before the actual event. Chances are excellent that there's nothing serious going on, but given this is a new issue and you don't know what's going on, you need to be seen as soon as possible. You need to take this seriously and go to either a GP or A&E now.

Read through that.

If you're not certain it's muscular strain sprain then you should seek assessment - if you call 111 then 999 out of 1000 you're eventually going to get told to goto A&E - it's not worth anyones job essentially to reassure it's unlikely anything sinister without a thorough assessment. Ambulance service also has a guideline that anyone presenting with chest pain is transported to A&E so if 111 fib and tell you they'll send an ambulance to 'check you out' don't believe it.

I had a CT angiogram to check my arteries but you'd likely have warning signs before that point. High blood pressure? High cholesterol?

I have a heart problem and most chest pains are not cardiac related but it's always worth getting checked out. If you go to A&E they'll do an ECG, maybe some blood tests to check troponins and if they thought it necessary they'd refer you for an echocardiogram or a CT angiogram, but prepared that they might not do any. First time I went to A&E they just said it was muscle/tissue and only when I insisted they listen to my family history did they look any deeper.

I had left sided chest pain, which persisted for around a week. Saw GP who sent me to A&E to rule out pulmonary embolism. All fine and pain was due to ruptured muscles following a particularly nasty chest infection and cough.

PE is serious and can be fatal if not detected early enough.

See your GP.

Does PE not start with pain in the leg/calf?

Dd had no leg pain when she had a PE. She had Intermittent chest pain for weeks. Went to a&e once, saw the gp once, fobbed off by both.

Then the chest pain came back worse one day and she had loads of clots in both lungs.

you really need to get seen.

I'm not wasting time. I have a job and kids that I can't just drop at a moments notice for a mild discomfort that is definitely not a&e worthy at this time. I will get checked out but I will need to make arrangements first.

Hi, hope you have sorted out your problems. Some people need to understand your situation, don't take negative comments into heart. You can always phone 111, comfort in your own home, usually speak to a nurse or doctor or book to see a GP. Btw, how old are you? I have read on Menopause website and app, it may be related to perimenopause. I have left aches, tingling pain, stitch on my left, usually comes before and during my periods. Now it is gone. Also have you been lifting anything heavy, moving things around? Take care. x😉
