To wonder where billionaires find joy...?

I find joy in so many little things - a clean kitchen, a takeaway every fortnight, a new candle, drinks with my friends... but when these things become the norm surely the spark of joy that comes with them also goes.

I wonder how billionaires, who have a spotless- well managed home(s), private chefs, Jo malone candles galore... find their little bits of joy when their every day life is most people's fantasy.

Anyway, IABU for being up this early on a Monday when I don't have work today. A billionaire would never...

I would find joy in being financially comfortable. If I didn’t have to worry about being sick longer than 4 weeks, as that’s when I’d go on half pay before SSP.

Surprisedcupcake · 02/09/2024 07:38

Probably things like having their Ferraris waxed and drinking expensive booze on their yachts 😂

I think a billionaire wouldn't be down-marketing with a Jo Malone candle!
Why can't they enjoy simple pleasures? Their kid's achievements, for example? Some may even clean their own kitchens!

Mercurial123 · 02/09/2024 07:39

Having a chef on hand would be my idea of joy. Also, housekeeping. I hate cleaning. It's never going to happen, though.

Meerkat9 · 02/09/2024 07:40

You know, maybe billionaires do those things themselves too? I've never bought a jo malone candle and do my own cleaning.

UmbrellaEllaEllaElla · 02/09/2024 07:40

I'd probably still do a lot of my own life admin as I find it meditative and grounding.

Changeyourfuckingcar · 02/09/2024 07:41

Very similar things to the average person I expect. For example, they may not make / buy their own dinner but they still have favourite dinners (albeit probably posher than we’re used to!). It isn’t all about money anyway, watching their children play, or their pets, going for a nice walk, beach days etc. They’re just people too!
Also, fwiw, my uncle is rich as fuck. Not billionaire but multi millionaire and he does his own cleaning. He literally said to me the last time I was at his that one of his favourite things was finishing up the cleaning on his ‘cleaning day’ and sitting with a cuppa watching the ducks on his pond lake afterwards

Ginmonkeyagain · 02/09/2024 07:42

They seem to generally seem to find joy on massive boats and making more money.

Or worrying about the apocalypse/ageing.

Bumpitybumper · 02/09/2024 07:43

Billionaires are people just like you and aren't some other species. They probably find joy in the same way virtually everybody else does which is spending time with friends and family, eating nice food etc. Of course the setting and surrounding for these activities may differ but fundamentally the joy is derived from the same places.

Seymour5 · 02/09/2024 07:43

Perhaps supporting a charity they believe in, or even starting one?

BodyLamp · 02/09/2024 07:43

Probably in their family. Like many other people. They are still human.

PigOnStiIts · 02/09/2024 07:45

I always feel my best after I’ve power washed the helipad

Tumbleweed101 · 02/09/2024 07:45

Most billionaires have the freedom to do whatever makes them happy - hobbies, travel etc. I imagine there comes a point where the money is irrelevant and they still enjoy small stuff.

AhBiscuits · 02/09/2024 07:46

In the same places as everyone else? They only outsource the things they don't want to do or don't have time to do.
I love to bake sourdough. I could buy it, but baking it brings me joy so I don't.

In all the usual things: helping others, spending time with family, enjoying hobbies and interests, a long bath, a good book, a new purchase, a delicious meal.

Billionaires and millionaires are just the same as all other folk, they’re just richer.

MidnightPatrol · 02/09/2024 07:47

I know a few people who are in this kind of financial situation, tbh they are all pretty normal (even those who grew up with it).

None have full time staff of any kind, so they might have a cleaner or housekeeper yes, but most still enjoy cooking meals, have hobbies, have work of some sort (be it paid work or voluntary) and so on.

I would say they more often than not have jobs that are related to their passions (and often self funded small businesses) which are perhaps to give them something to do than sustain themselves.

And of course they live in ridiculously nice houses (and multiple of them) and drive fancier cars. But even if these things are easily affordable, there’s a joy in them!

PensivePencil · 02/09/2024 07:48

Waking up on a Monday without that feeling of dread?

tinklingchimes · 02/09/2024 07:48

I'd find joy in being able to help people were I in that position. Plus still in the little things.

LittleSeasideCottage · 02/09/2024 07:49

There was a documentary ages ago where a Billionaire was being interviewed in his house by someone whilst he was cooking dinner. He was waxing lyrical about the dinner he was going to cook himself, which was a Tesco pizza but he'd also bought a packet of tiger prawns to add as a topping. He was very happy and saying this was his favourite food. I thought it was actually quite sweet that he thought that was a real treat whilst standing in house worth £50M+ !!

I think Billionaires are doing just fine 😂

Misthios · 02/09/2024 07:50

Same as other people, they are not a different species! Their hobbies, getting out into nature, pets, spending time with their kids, a takeaway, watching Netflix.

RoseUnder · 02/09/2024 07:50

Fun question to muse. I’ve known indirectly some very wealthy people (exposure through my job) and answers I can recall draw from range from being good at creative craftwork - eg one man had a carpentry hobby and was very talented at turning wood in his beautiful workshop, to doing charity work with tangible outcomes (eg paying for a hospital), to excelling at a certain sport (downhill skiing in this case) to successfully influencing a world leader to take a certain action, and enjoying the feeling of power.

TinyYellow · 02/09/2024 07:50

I expect they find joy in may of the same things as everyone else. Enjoying nature, seeing family, new family babies being born, achievements of children, being able to make a difference to causes they care about.

We’re all only human.

MontagueMoo · 02/09/2024 07:52

If I was a billionaire, I think I'd still find joy in my hobbies and passions. I'd have a lot more time to devote to them for sure. I'd find joy in the lovely antiques I'd have in the house and my lovely garden I didn't have to spend hours weeding.

They're just people. Very rich people, but still the same emotions and needs and instincts as everyone else.
