Bumped a car on salary sacrifice

Hi

Please be gentle, I am mortified and so upset. I pulled into a car parking space earlier and bumped the car next to me. No damage to mine at all, but I scuffed the paintwork on the other persons car. I left my details and they called me earlier and they were fine and said accidents happen, but their car is through a salary sacrifice scheme with their employer and can only be repaired at an approved repairer/manufacturer of car garage (without outing the type of car, it's an expensive car) so they need to speak to them tomorrow and will call me after.

I haven't rang my insurance yet as I'm going to wait until tomorrow to hear back from the other driver so I get full details.

My excess is £350; has anyone on salary sacrifice bumped their car or similar and do you have to go through the scheme or can you get fixed elsewhere?

Just weighing up my options. I do think I'd rather just go through my insurance so it's straight forward though.

I feel so, so silly

Basically they have leased their car.

Some lease agreements will require repair at certain garages. But that shouldn't stop this be handled by your insurance.

Just inform your insurance, pay the £350 & forget about it. There's nothing else you can do. You don't need to be involved in anything to do with where it gets repaired. When you say you're weighing up your options, what other options do you think you have?

You won't pay an excess for a third party claim, so just go through your insurance and let them deal with it all.

Of course the OP will pay an excess. She caused the damage to someone else's car.

DreamW3aver · 01/09/2024 16:12

This is what you pay insurance for, the way the other driver buys their car is irrelevant, let your insurance know in the morning and forget about it, until your renewal when unfortunately your premium will increase

Like a pp said you won't pay anything. If you aren't claiming for your own damage, save the £350 for next year's premium

Cantgetausername87 · 01/09/2024 16:12

Yeah you'll only pay an excess if you're claiming for your car. I'd let them know today so that they can get the ball rolling and keep the claim cost down and get it closed quickly. Should be quite easy to do and if you have their details they'll sort it x

Not unless she has an unusual insurance policy, no excess on 3rd party costs

MigGril · 01/09/2024 16:14

You would only pay the £350 excess if you where claiming for damage to your car. So just go through the insurance. Especially if its an expensive car the repair bill will be expensive. I hope you had no claims protection.

I didn't even know this! Thank you, I'm with QuoteMeHappy and my no claims are protected - I have 12 years protected up to now. I will give the other driver a ring in the morning for their details and will ring my insurance and then hand it over to them

Just ring your insurance now, give them the info you have and say you’ll follow up once you’ve got full details from the other driver.

Agreeing with other posters whether their car is leased or whatever isn’t relevant, just sort via your insurance.

Shade17 · 01/09/2024 17:30

Just let your insurer deal with it but budget for a premium increase come renewal.
