Just found out by chance that the little boy my DD sits next to in class has had nits 3 times since xmas
The boys mother is a friend of mine and has never cracked on
I know getting nits is nobodys fault .But do feel she could of told me .
I see her every day
Should she of told me????

And I don't think you can equate nits with chicken pox. 2 very different things!

Johnso · 18/04/2008 13:43

People are funny about nits
BearBlue- As your dd hasn't got them yet I wouldn't worry about it.
Is it more that you feel upset that the mother you consider a friend didn't confide in you?

brassmonkeys · 18/04/2008 13:43

I see your point bear its not the nits its the fact she did`nt tell you.
She should of as she knows you

bearblue · 18/04/2008 13:48

Its the fact she did`nt tell me and the chances of dd getting them were high as they sit next to each other in class and play 2gether.

TBH Bear, I think you are worrying too much. She will catch them from someone at some stage, believe me

mimismummy · 18/04/2008 13:54

exactly what i was thinking, johnso. BB, you dd is at a high risk of getting nits full stop. Whether your friend told you or not doesn't change this. As you have said, your friend telling you wouldn't have changed what you or your dd would do, I really don't see what the problem is, sorry. Like I have said, you should be checking regularly anyway, so it would make no difference. it is frustrating when they get nits - don't i bloody know it - but it's not worth getting worked up about because your friend didn't tell you, it really isn't.

bearblue · 18/04/2008 14:02

Think maybe I am

but a friend did this to me over conjunctivtis.Dropped the kids off for a sleepover so she and dh could go out
2 of her dc had it
.When I asked her about it day after she said yeah but wanted to go out.

Its not the same I know

Gosh, that is unreasonable- conjunctivitis is highly infectious, can require prescribed medical treatment and is a lot more distressing for the child, so i can totally see why you were annoyed about that and your friend was BU. Nits, unfortunately, is just a fact of school life, and isn't comparable to conjunctivitis, which most schools/nurseries etc will not accept children who have it. My head is really starting to itch now.....!!

bearblue · 18/04/2008 14:12

I know its not the same

Just got my sloggis in a twist today

Maybe she thought they came from your DD and didn't like to say !?

solo · 18/04/2008 16:27

I'm totally amazed that your Dd didn't get them since she sits next to her in class...lucky really, very lucky.

bearblue · 18/04/2008 17:09

So am I

I used volunteer in dds school helping teacher with literacy by listening to the children read. I was sitting with one little boy with very blond fine hair and I could see the lice in his eyebrows and dropping on to the page of his book!!

DD is now in y6 and has had nits so many times I have lost count. She has very long thick hair and it is a nightmare to comb through but as she doesn't want it cut she has to put up with it. Touch wood we seem to have been pretty nit free this year.

madamez · 18/04/2008 17:36

You know, there really is something in this idea of bringing back nit nurses. Because I never had nits as a kid, nor did anyone I knew.
(I did, however, get them as an adult. I initially - iNITially, hahaha - blamed it on going on an anti-Criminal Justic Bill demo with a lot of crusties, but as I discovered the -eeewwww - thriving colony only a day later I must have caught them earlier, probably from someone in the local market or even on a crowded bus or something).
But nits do seem to be a lot more prevalent these days.

I've asked for my random post to be removed - sorry!

Years ago, I worked for WHSmith and we had a free gift recall from the front of a magazine. The free gift was a blusher brush made from real hair(I believe from somewhere like Russia or that way anyway), the extra free gift were lice eggs(nits), that were (apparently)all dead, but never the less EUW!!!
