Vinted

Have recently discovered Vinted, & just collected an amazing bag.
Concerns:
It could be dangerously addictive
The goods might be the results of shoplifting.

Two jackets on the way.

The shoplifting thing does concern me too.
I do think quite a lot of the new items have been picked up in sales though for reselling.
This week I got a wool coat, leather blazer and cashmere jumper for less than £50. All in perfect condition.

ThinWomansBrain · 02/09/2024 01:48

Sounds a good haul😀

The things I've purchased this weekend, two jackets, are (allegedly) barely worn rather than new.
My initial purchase was a designer bag - which looks genuine and unused, for £10 plus the service fee, that I'm feeling uneasy about.

I love Vinted and try not to get carried away! Much cheaper than eBay.

There may be the odd light fingered person on there, but I seriously doubt there are serious, serial shoplifters making a living from it. It’s not that easy to shoplift: there are security tags, CCTV… why would you risk a conviction just to sell a bag for £10?

Anyway, I got fab DM sandals, a Seasalt raincoat and a wonderful patchwork quilt recently. None were new, so my conscience is clear!

TheHeadOfTheHouse · 02/09/2024 05:00

You got a designer bag for a tenner? 🤔

I’ve never seen designer stuff on there that’s cheap.

what was it, out of interest?

disdisdisisgood · 02/09/2024 05:12

I agree I think a lot of it is nicked. Other things have been worn once or twice but sold as BNWT and the label put back on.

LoudSnoringDog · 02/09/2024 07:09

It's probably from Turkey and not genuine designer

Suzuki70 · 02/09/2024 07:11

I like Vinted but sometimes when I see, say, a brand new kids football kit that would have cost £50 or so that's new with tags for £15 I assume it's been nicked.

WoahThreeAces · 02/09/2024 07:43

I love Vinted. I've got some incredible bargains - all second hand stuff but in good condition, e.g. I got a pair of Adidas trainers for just under £6 (Inc postage etc) and when I put them through the wash they came out looking almost new.

I sell stuff on Vinted too so I am trying to stick to the rule that I only spend my Vinted balance and not "proper" money 😂

longdistanceclaraclara · 02/09/2024 07:55

I very much doubt the bag is genuine.

Don’t assume! I sell most of my DCs clothes for a fraction of the price as I want to sell quickly. Lots of branded items, unworn shoes (with or without tags).

KimberleyClark · 02/09/2024 08:21

I read in the Sunday papers about someone who discovered her partner was cheating through buying something on Vinted. Her profile pic showed her and her partner and the seller asked how she knew him.

Brand new Premier League kit from this season, that only came out last month? I can only really think of duplicate gifts as a likely reason if not nicked from Sports Direct.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 02/09/2024 08:26

Yeah that bag sounds like a fake I'm afraid.

I've bought lots of kids clothing, usually for only a few quid, its great!

It was probably fake

Winederlust · 02/09/2024 08:30

Agree with PP that the bag (and football kit) is more likely to be a fake than stolen.

I love vinted. You just have to be careful as with everything online.
You are able to communicate with the seller before purchase so can always request to see receipts etc if you're unsure.

IncessantNameChanger · 02/09/2024 08:37

I buy lots of dd clothes from the joules outlet and sell the unworn bits for cheap. Simply because no one will pay more than £5. The real saving from now on is not buying her anything she hasn't chosen herself now and is needed ( from.Primark).

cardboard33 · 02/09/2024 08:59

I have bought and sold a lot on Vinted over the last 2 years, mostly cheap kids clothing but occasionally some bits for myself. I actively avoid buying from people who have only/mostly BNWT items (particularly lots and it's all random stuff) and people who have 1000s of reviews, as I feel like they're probably all stolen and/or they must be doing something "odd" to have that many reviews given I've probably sold something every other day, plus bought stuff and only have around 300 reviews. I also only buy from sellers who are clearly like me and just doing it to get rid of their kids clothes - they have a whole wardrobe in a similar size/style and it's clearly been worn, but still in good enough condition to be sold on. They have enough photos of the clothes plus the care tags and have been online in the last 24 hours or so, and tend to message people with a random question just to see how responsive they are before I buy anything!!

I don't have any experience of buying designer stuff though either on Vinted or real life, but I think if it feels too good to be true then it probably is ... Whereas if you're buying aged 5-6 tops from M&S for £1 like me then you're probs alright!

Fair enough. And to be honest I also noticed sellers with a large number of unopened cosmetics for sale and always wonder what the story is.

PinaOcado · 18/09/2024 19:23

I wouldn't trust anything from Vinted these days. I've just been scammed myself today and Vinted simply aren't interested.

ScottishDora · 18/09/2024 19:43

I sell on vinted and have a mix of used and new with tags, all my new with tags is stuff I've bought and either decide at a later date I don't like or forgot to return.

Shizzlestix · 18/09/2024 20:15

I’m an addict 😯, sold pretty much my whole wardrobe this year on there and on eBay and bought a whole new one (big weightloss). It’s awful, tho, I think of something or see something and just get it if it’s on there. I think I’ve spent more than I’ve made by a few hundred, I really need to stop buying shoes! I’ve sold brand new stuff just because I go to wear it but it’s too big etc.

Edited

Selling may be OK but you have to be very careful with buying.

Bringonchristmas36 · 18/09/2024 22:44

Yes I’ve just found it as want to sell on clothes I won’t use. It’s working pretty well albeit I’m learning, eg people will offer a price!!

cardboard33 · 19/09/2024 08:16

I generally put the asking price as 20-30% higher than I actually want for it then if someone makes an offer then I still get what I want but then there are also people who are happy to pay the "full" price. When I first started I put the price as the price that I wanted and would not accept any offers, and didn't make offers either, but now I make offers on stuff that has been on for a while and buy at asking price if it's a relatively new upload as I wouldn't accept an offer on something that I've just put on the site but would if I'd had it there for around 48-72 hours without a sale . But like I said up the thread, I sell my son's outgrown clothing and buy the next size up so I'm talking of small numbers (in value) rather than designer stuff. I would go to a shop for that!
