I was in a hurry earlier and think I was driving about 33mph in a 30. There are a few old style yellow-box speed cameras down the whole road, and then a new tall yellow one. I realised my mistake and speed after passing the first old style yellow camera, so was driving under 30 as I passed the others and the new one

I only glanced quickly but think the car speedo read 34-35 and maps said 33, so 33 is probably accurate. I wasn’t doing any faster than this for sure. I never speed and regret not paying more attention. I’ve never had any points for speeding or done a speed awareness course either.

What is the likelihood of receiving a ticket for doing 33? I didn’t see any of the cameras flash but maybe it wouldn’t be so obvious in the day.

I’m massively overthinking it now as I have a lot on my mind. I know I was BU doing more than 30 and won’t again, there aren’t any excuses for it - so don’t need telling that. Also sure most drivers have accidentally gone a couple of mph over the limit before on more than one occasion so don’t need anyone to tell me.

Posting because I want to know the likelihood of actually receiving a ticket for this. Is every speed camera active? Would they send a ticket even if you’re within the 10%?

I had a ticket for 33 in a 30. Took a speed awareness course and paid the fine.

I'd put the money aside for a couple of months just in case

Very unlikely but does happen

Thanks, definitely will.

It varies. Some police forces will follow up and some won’t. They know your speedometer will have said higher than that, so there’s no excuse.

I always thought the tolerance was 10% +3. Not sure where I heard that though! A speed camera flashing is pretty hard to miss given that they flash twice if you're over. You'll probably be fine.

I had to go on a speed awareness course for doing 33 in a very rural 30.

I'm sure the course told us that there is no '10% tolerance' as many of us thought. I might be wrong though as it was a few years ago.

The tolerance of your speedometer is about 10%. You cannot use that as a reason to drive 10% higher than it says.

Didn't say that though did I?

Just gone back onto maps to have a look. It’s an old style GATSO type one. There are two newer digital ones further down the road. I’m really hoping it’s an old inactive ine
