Hairdressers running late

Lmnopqr · 29/08/2024 18:48

Decided to try a new hairdresser, so arrived at the desk about 10 minutes before my appointment.

Wouldn't want to be late because I wasn't sure where to park or which way was in (it's inside a complex with different businesses).

Also got a confirmation message telling me not to cancel within 24 hours of booking and the 'be mindful and respectful of stylists time.'

Fair, but now she's still finishing her last appointment 20 mins into my 45 min appt.

Do I smile politely and accept or mention it?

I binned a hair dresser of a few years after this. It wasn't a one off,it was every time. I was told to have a seat. Sometimes she was actually washing her own hair. I left!!

Mumistiredzzzz · 29/08/2024 18:53

That's so rude, has anyone acknowledged that they're running late? Irritating that they have included a line about being on time but can't be bothered to be on time themselves.

MichaelandKirk · 29/08/2024 18:53

Depends.. wait until she does her hair!

It’s the same with plane journeys. They treat people like cattle with threats of not being allowed on if you are late to check in or the gate and then they round you up and treat you like sxit getting you to wait for sometimes hours.

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 29/08/2024 18:53

Has she said sorry at least? That's cheeky

JC03745 · 29/08/2024 18:54

Yes- say something!!! You might have an appointment/meeting etc yourself afterwards- even if not, they should have apologied and explained what is happening.

I had similar going to a new salon. I arrived 10mins early. 15mins AFTER my appointment time, a girl strolls into the salon- she was the stylist. No apology, nothing, just a 'Hi-Ya'. 😡

Bluevelvetsofa · 29/08/2024 19:43

My optician usually kept me waiting, but I put up with it, until the time I made an appointment which was cancelled because he was having the day off for his son’s birthday. The appointment was rearranged and then, the day before, I had a call to ask me to go 20 minutes earlier. Fine, no problem. I arrived 20 minutes earlier and was then kept waiting for 45 minutes.

DH was waiting for me, the car park time was running out and the person after me was looking daggers at me because she clearly thought it was my fault.

I’ve changed to a different one.

Lmnopqr · 29/08/2024 20:29

No, there was no apology! She said it wouldn't be long when I was still early and then nothing more until she was ready.

Just lots of chat about how they'd been so busy, run off their feet and short staffed all day, so it was hard to say anything, but hopefully a reason for a one off.

Ended up leaving 10 mins before they closed so I guess it was lucky (or because) nobody was booked in for the last appointment.

Very frustrating as I needed to find a new hairdresser and she did a good job, but can't be doing a 2 hour + round trip for a cut and blow.

I used to go to one that was always late. Even though the haircut was great I left in the end because of it.
My current one is much better, its a sign of not being well organised.

Werweisswohin · 29/08/2024 20:35

Vote with your feet and don't return.
Leave a realistic review - so praise her good points but also mention the time keeping and any other negatives.

IDontHateRainbows · 29/08/2024 20:36

I binned off my regular hairdresser for repeatedly keeping me waiting often 30ojs plus.

Shame as she was OK, but couldn't manage her time.

Molone · 29/08/2024 20:38

I hate it more when they leave a colour on my hair to develop and then start working on someone else too, it irritates me 🤣

SeriouslyNoTimeForKnobHeads · 29/08/2024 21:10

Depends on the hairdresser. My lovely hairdresser is worth her weight in gold. Sometimes she’s running on time on and sometimes things run late…she does a lot of fab colour etc which takes a while. I do try to book the earliest available slot in the day though.

Dearg · 29/08/2024 21:23

I actually talked to my hairdresser and the salon manager about this a couple of years ago. Not often, but sometimes I was kept waiting - maybe starting on time, but then sitting around between steps while she finished something else - so never leaving on time.
I got help up in traffic due to someone else’s accident; called the salon to say I would be late to be told that any more than 10 mins and I would miss my slot.
Well, it works both ways.

Just tell them you are not happy. Don’t care how busy they are, an apology was needed, or prior warning. Agree to leaving a fair review ‘ hair do was great, time management poor.”

Shattereddreamsparkway · 29/08/2024 21:57

I got sick of late hairdressers and those that did my hair for it to look no different whilst I sat there for hours. So I decided to buy my own professional colour and developer and watched some YouTube tutorials and cut and coloured my hair. I’ve never had so many compliments and I can do it when it suits me. I’d really recommend. I’m not particularly skilled either so I think if I can do it anyone can! Just thought I’d offer an alternative

Gettingannoyednow · 29/08/2024 22:11

It drives me nuts when hairdressers do this. Leave you waiting 15-20 mins, then sit you in the chair and agree a plan of action, then fuck off for another 15 minutes... IF YOU CAN'T DO MY HAIR AT THAT TIME WHY DID YOU AGREE TO THE APPOINTMENT???

I change hairdresser every time they pull this shit with no explanation or apology. I am running out of local hairdressers to try.

JC03745 · 29/08/2024 22:24

I forgot this one, its not just hairdressers! I needed a new dental crown, which was £800! I always get a text 48hrs before any dental appointment, and a reminder that if I don't give them 24hrs notice of a cancellation- I get charged £50.
15mins before my appointment, they called to say the dentist wasn't well and they'd need to re-schedule. The day before the fitting appointment, they called to say the crown wouldn't arrive by the 10am appointment, and they'd need to re-schedule 2 weeks later!!!
At my last appointment, I was to pay the final amount, I pointed out that as THEY had cancelled ME twice within 24hrs of the appointment, £100 should be taken off the total amount. She said 'Oh, it doesn't work like that!'

I appreciate that the dentist might have suddenly come down with something and couldn't work. What they don't realise, is that I'm currently caring for someone after a sudden, family bereavement, so had a 140mile round trip each time to get there- to then be cancelled 😡

My hairdresser ran way late at my last appointment and I was pissed as I was needing to make visiting hours at the hospital to see my seriously ill stepdad.
Turns out she ran late as her auntie was also very unwell and she had been thrown for a loop trying to get updates from the hospital so we spent an appointment being eachothers agony aunts and chatting but she did apologise for it running late, she's a brilliant stylist and I made visiting hours so all was ok. . However if it's a regular thing then I'd absolutely say bin them.
