Correct. Who said they weren't?

LlynTegid · 29/08/2024 12:05

Important to know because Rubella for women can impact on fertility. And as I understand it, more people die from measles.

DramaAlpaca · 29/08/2024 12:10

Indeed they are. Both can be very nasty in different ways.

x2boys · 29/08/2024 12:23

I dint think this is new information
I'm 50 so didn't have the MMR but i remember having to have Rubella,at school all the girls did.

AudHvamm · 29/08/2024 12:26

The MMR is Measles, Mumps and Rubella so yes

eurochick · 29/08/2024 12:29

Yes, obviously.

I had both as a child pre-MMR. And mumps as well.

Not sure this warrants a whole thread, it’s not exactly new information!

Important to know because Rubella for women can impact on fertility. And as I understand it, more people die from measles.

The main issue with rubella is the devastating effect it has on the foetus. The virus attacks whichever part of the nervous system is developing so in the first trimester it can cause brain damage, blindness and deafness. In the second trimester it can still cause deafness and some have additional neurological damage/learning difficulties.

For a virus which generally causes a mild illness in adults - and often passes unnoticed - it can cause quite profound life-long disabilities in the developing foetus.

Yes they are. Who's saying otherwise?
