I asked a version of this on the conception board but didnt get any replies so thought id try here.
In theory, is it possible for a woman in perimenopause to ovulate, miss a period, and then ovulate again at the same point that she would have ovulated in the second cycle (if she had have had her period?)
I'd always believed that you could only ovulate once a cycle, the exception being double ovulation in the case of twins. However, new research seems to be suggesting that women are potentially able to ovulate more than once in a cycle (separate times), especially when they are approaching menopause.
I got ovulation symptoms around the time I should have got my period, missed the period, and then got more ovulation symptoms 2 weeks later. I'm not pregnant (neither trying nor preventing but tested and am not)
As research into women's reproductive systems is so under explored, maybe it makes sense that there can be some evidence of fluke double ovulation that hasn't been examined before? Aibu to think that a woman can ovulate at separate points in her cycle as she approaches menopause, or is this just a crazy theory when the established school of thought has too much evidence to consider any abberations?
Would love to hear your own personal experiences as well as any evidence you've come across either way.
Genuinely curious!
