To think we should complain to GP

DH recently went to another country to see family. Where they are from you need vaccines which he had however he caught something you can't vaccine against (being vague as I have nosey family on here).

He did not show symptoms until he arrived back. After becoming ill for 5 days he went to his GP who said as he had been out of the country he would book him for a blood test. For some reason this blood test was two weeks away (our GP is normally alot quicker than this). DH started to get more/worst symptoms so he went back to be told it's probably just muscle pain and given some strong pain relief that made DH even worse.
We did consider hospital at this point but DH was up and down and said half of the time he wasn't that bad. Spoke to a GP again said nothing they can do and to take pain relief and wait for blood test. I asked for an earlier blood test as he clearly was not getting better but told none available.

The day of the blood test seemed a bad turning point for DH who by this point was becoming very unwell. The doctor who saw him said he would rush the blood test through and we would have the results within 24 hours (Thursday). By Friday after repeated phone calls the receptionist told me the doctors had not had time to look at the results of the blood test and we would have to wait until Monday. I demanded a phone call with the doctor that day which I got. They looked at the result and said DH clearly has an infection but they could not tell what. They prescribed antibiotics anyway.

By the Saturday DH became so unwell I did what I should have done a week before and rang an ambulance. He was in hospital extremely unwell for 3 weeks. If he had treatment earlier it would not have got the stage he was at.

This was a couple of months ago and for a while I have just been relieved to have DH home. However I have been thinking and trying to decide if I think the GP response was enough. In particular the visit where that GP dismissed all of DH other symptoms, the fact he had been away and gave him very strong pain relief for muscle pain. DH hardly took it but the pain was from likely from his organs being damaged and the pain killers would have made it worse. I have also needed a blood test recently and got my appointment within 48 hours which is quite common at my GP even for none serious issues.

AIBU to consider complaining? I am not trying to get anything out of it. I just think more could have been done and that needs acknowledging for potential future cases considering where DH had travelled from. Or at the very least a blood test rush through from the start.

I hope your DH is recovering, Op.
Yes, your DH had returned from somewhere there was an infection risk and was showing symptoms of said travel-related illness (dengue, malaria etc) then the least your GP should have done is asked for advice from Public Health England or tropical disease advice line/hospital microbiology.
