Have veneers on front four teeth, not a vanity thing, a car accident years ago. Just been (stupidly) trying to open an ice pop with my teeth and chipped half of one of the teeth off 😩I have the chipped veneer and it fits perfectly, is there any way I can do it myself, can you buy teeth glue from anywhere or is that stupid 🙈really can’t afford expensive dentist fees at the moment

Nope.

If it’s a small chip can you just leave it?

Turnitoffitsboring · 25/08/2024 21:28

@CreativeOriginalUsername It’s half the veneer-lengthwise. Would a dental glue from the chemist not work

I currently have half a tooth super glued (gorilla glue) onto my front tooth. No idea if it's recommended but it has worked for 2 weeks now. Waiting for dentist appointment.

I had a similar situation a few years back. My 15 year old front tooth veneer came off when eating crunchy toast. I tried to stick it back on with that temporary filling stuff you can get in the chemist's, but it kept falling off. So I had to spend the next day keeping my mouth shut as much as possible so as to not reveal my scary snaggletooth. Fortunately the dentist managed to reattach it fairly easily.

SauviGone · 25/08/2024 21:37

Yes dental glue from a pharmacy will do it.

I guess you won’t know unless you try.

I tried it and it lasted four hours before breaking again 😂

TheHateIsNotGood · 25/08/2024 21:40

You can, having superglued a bit of 'paste' back onto a chipped front tooth many years myself, but it won't last.

But it's definitely worth doing as a temporary fix.

olympicsrock · 25/08/2024 21:41

Get it sorted properly or else it will fall off again and you’ll lose it

HungryLittleCrocodile · 25/08/2024 21:41

Try the pharmacy and see if you can get dental repair kits @Turnitoffitsboring Lots of people had to do some dental DIY during the Covid pandemic. Hopefully you can get something to fix it!

floridaidea · 25/08/2024 21:54

No it's not possible to recement a veneer with any OTC dental kit.
Sorry OP.
Ring your dentist 9am Tuesday
Don't be tempted to use super glue either, you'll end up with a dead tooth.

Turnitoffitsboring · 25/08/2024 22:02

Some say you can do it with otc glue some not 🤷🏻‍♀️

You can definitely buy something called temparin max repair kit from Boots. It's a temporary fix but better than nothing and better than super glue!

Don't get me wrong, you're not going to be able to dental glue it on and eat an apple, but if you're careful when eating/what you eat, it'll tide you over until you get to a dentist.

While travelling around India, we found a dental supply shop...bought diamond polishing paste my dentist uses and the glue for crowns and veneers....they sell it on ebay, but would take a while to arrive for you. we did try the glue for a loose crown and its still there...4 years later.

The problem is when the veneer of crown is placed the exposed dental tissue should be sterile to prevent bacteria being trapped between the fitting and the tooth. Obviously this is incredibly hard to replicate at home and usually when something is repaired or refitted it needs to be properly cleaned of old debris which may have built up or old cement etc. if the fitting isn't clean and exactly tight it will rot under the crown.

Op why on earth were you trying to open a anything with veneers. Or even natural teeth for that matter. The mind boggles.

Get to a dentist and have it repaired properly.

TheFairyCaravan · 25/08/2024 22:59

You can. My veneer came off in lockdown so I bought some professional cement off the internet and stuck it back on. I’m an ex dental nurse though so I knew exactly how to mix it etc. It lasted until last October when it needed replacing by the dentist.

Turnitoffitsboring · 25/08/2024 23:00

@TheFairyCaravan Professional cement, what is that please?

OP posts:
TheFairyCaravan · 25/08/2024 23:07

It’s called glass ionomer cement but I wouldn’t recommend using it if you don’t know what you’re doing because you can make a right mess of it. I wouldn’t have used it if it hadn’t have been for lockdown.

Turnitoffitsboring · 25/08/2024 23:12

@TheFairyCaravan Would I be ok with something from the pharmacy?
