Hemp tea for child

Hi. I've been looking for herbal remedies for the treatment of ADHD as I'd like to avoid prescription medications. I've found this hemp tea but I'm not sure if it's suitable for an 11 year old. Does anyone know?

Please don't drug your kid

For fuck’s sake. Don’t give an 11yr old hemp OP. Presumably this tea has no or very little THC (the component that gets you high if you use cannabis) but there are hundreds of different cannibinoids in hemp/cannabis and they haven’t been tested on children, including CBD. Go and talk to someone with a medical degree instead of debating drugging your child with herbs. Herbal/natural does not mean definitely safe or without negative effects.

Please don't drug your child with cannabis, why object to the ADHD meds if you're planning on hemp?

Meh. What's the difference between medicating via prescription medications and non-prescription medications? They're both substances you're giving to help treat the ADHD. I'd rather medicate with things that have good research behind them or not at all.

Exactly. Plus pharmacists track dosage accurately so it can be monitored and adjusted. Hemp tea doesn’t.

There are safe effective prescription medicines with a proven safety record. Then there is hemp tea with cannabis. I mean whatever are you thinking? For what it's worth most ADHD drugs are stimulants which make a person with ADHD "more alert" and able to calm down and concentrate. Proper drugs got my son through high school and a university degree. He used them for studying and exams but not on holidays or when he wasn't studying.

Good for you and your son. We tried medication for my son, and his blood pressure was very high. He was not eating or sleeping. We had to stop, and I'm not putting my sons health at risk again. Also, studies are still being done on the long-lasting effects of adhd medications. I came on here for advice, not to be lecturered by a bunch of middle-aged ladies sitting on their high horses. Sheesh, you all need to go have a cup of tea ;) Have a fabulous evening!

So very good, sensible points were made, you didn't like them so flounced off. Have you never used a forum before? Obviously what you want is an echo chamber full of agreement?

Beforetheend · 24/08/2024 21:55

Stimulants may not be suitable for him, but has he been offered non stimulant options that might be more suitable?

I don’t get on with hemp tea - it makes me feel very low rather than relaxed. That can be an issue with adhd that we don’t always respond in predictable ways.

Greategret · 25/08/2024 07:19

Just in case anybody is interested, people often try several medications before finding a good "fit" and my son found the second better than the first. Yes, it does affect appetite but you can work around that with breakfast before the first dose and stopping medication early enough so they can eat a good dinner and get to sleep.

Lammveg · 25/08/2024 18:15

@Okaythankyou sorry your son didn't get on with the meds you tried. There's other options out there! I think anything you give has risks but I would argue that risks for non prescribed medications are higher. I assume the high BP was found due to monitoring, and you wouldn't even know what you'd need to monitor if you give non prescribed meds. Anyway, I'm sure no one wanted to lecture you but without the background of you having tried other medication before, it's hard to suggest anything else. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

That escalated quickly.

Any drug with effects have side effects. ADHD drugs do. So does any cannabis tea that works. The difference is that one is regulated.

If you want to go drug free, do. DD is managing with routine, boundaries, lots of education support, parenting effectively. But it's a lot of work. And doesn't work for all children with ADHD.

That's alright. You won't need to hear about how some people with ADHD react to it, then.
