and I feel heart flutters around every 8 seconds. Should I go to a&e, call 111 or just take a note and let gp know on Monday?

Reading online it seems excessively high. Mine is normally high at around 170/90.

  1. They will triage and send you to A&E if necessary

If you SBP is consistently over 180, even after you've relaxed and done it again, that is a medical emergency. You need to go to A&E.

Thanks all, online says as much. Also got an earache I don't like, I will call them

Hi, nurse perspective here - just wanted to add that a BP at 170/90 is much too high for a baseline BP and would need investigation at the GP once this episode is sorted. The risk of elevated BP goes beyond cardiac issues, you're running the risk of kidney problems, increased likelihood of vascular dementia or stroke and a range of other things. I don't say this to scare you because blood pressure is VERY easy to get under control with medication and lifestyle changes but it's worthwhile getting it checked out. Best of luck 😊

Thanks. I know it's too high, I've been on 4 x drugs to lower. But they all give me water retention. I've had eating disorders so I haven't continued taking them

I realise this is bad

If your BP is newly this high, and it's consistent i.e. not a one off abnormal reading, then yep should probably goto A&E for a review.

111 will just tell you to goto A&E also if you tell them the info in your post. At the mention of 'heart flutters' they may tell you they're going to send an ambulance crew to 'check you out' - they'll just be giving you a lift to A&E because that's the protocol - if you were really going to be checked out then it's blood work & urine tests which ambulance crews can't complete. If you've previously been worked up by your GP for hypertension and they've got a diagnosis/treatment plan or ruled out any sinister causes requiring treatment already the crew likely also won't have access to this either. It's a rubbish disjointed system unfortunately.

Ultimately reading between the lines if this has been for a while now, with multiple assessments recommending medications that you're not adhering with then likely when A&E work all that out they will discharge you without any treatment. You should continue to engage with your GP and any ongoing investigations/treatment plans.
