We are so proud of my DS - he had a HELLISH time in secondary- covid, health issues, bullying. He hated school and is so relieved it’s over.

He passed all his 9 GCSEs with 5s & 6s and has a place in college to do ALevels. He’s SO happy and proud!

Well done to everyone who got results today- the media only tends to focus on 9’s but hardly any of DS’s mates got 9s. Obviously massively well done to anyone who got straight 9’s but also massively well done to anyone who just passed and got enough to take them on to the next steps.

These kids are the covid year 7’s - they had a terrible start and for my DS, it has had a massive impact on his education.

They are all brilliant resilient kids 💚

My DS has passed all his subjects with 4s, 5s and 6s plus one 8 and a distinction. When he started senior school he’d just finished CBT with CAMHS due to his anxiety and was on extra support for English as his SATs weren’t great. He’s finished senior school as part of the senior student leadership team and is going on to do A levels. I couldn’t have imagined this for him 5 years ago, the school have done such a good job and the whole family is bursting with pride. Well done to everyone who’s achieved great results today!

Yay! Well done to your DS 💚🎉

My DS also got his hoped-for results (and will be as glad to see the back of English Lit as a PP's kid is to see the back of Maths!)

Well done to all

Lovely positive stories of achievement at different levels! I was so worried this morning but DS passed everything and hit what he needs for college (a win for us, it was gruelling trying to get him to revise!).
He pulled his maths and science up by 2 grades from mocks so I'm thrilled for him!

Dairyqueen-
Don't worry too much about the English. My DD also got a three in English language. (2 marks off a 4). Her teacher is also an examiner for the exam board and he said that English literature counts as much as English language when they are taking into consideration whether you have passed English and maths or not. She enrolled in her college today and they said more or less the same thing. So fingers crossed for tomorrow for you both.

I'm a teacher, and regardless of the heavy focus on the 4s and the 9s, I've shed (happy!) tears today over pretty much every single grade point. I'm so, so proud of all those students who showed up and did their best, even the ones who didn't manage to pull off the grade on the day.

I know it's boring to go on about covid and lockdowns, but in the social and academic context of these kids' school experience, even those students who have got "not quite what they were hoping for" have done incredibly well. I'm getting emotional again!

DS got great grades but not as perfect as he hoped (autistic). He gets into college and has genuinely done really well. I'm so proud but he's disappointed. Any advice?

As someone who got straight As at both GCSEs and A Levels, as a parent I would be quietly relieved for a minor disappointment for a perfectionist teen (if I'm reading your post correctly?). I worked so hard at school and was so pleased with my results, but looking back they became a bit of a millstone around my neck. I became quite risk averse because I didn't want to spoil what I felt was my perfect scorecard, and became quite fixated on outward measures of success rather than intrinsic rewards.

I don't think any of that would have helped me at the time though, if I had got disappointing results. I think you just need to let time do it's work and he will soon get a healthier perspective on it.

Well done to all.
My Grandson too.
Passed eight and one merit.
All 7's and 6's.
Besides covid he has ADHD and was off a lot with MH . College for him too in September.
We should all be proud.

Ah, this is lovely! Congrats to all the children who've overcome so much to pass their subjects.

I cannot imagine the relief of getting to this point after all the crap they've experienced in the last few years 👏🏾🏆.

Onwards and upwards to them 😊.
