Hello,

Reposting as the last post got deleted due to not cropping personal information -🙈

My dad had an endoscopy last Tuesday and had biopsies taken. We're waiting for the results of the biopsies but we were given this, any indications from this as to how things are looking?

I'm so scared it's going to be a cancer of some sort 🥺.

He did a stool sample a few weeks ago which showed protein. They suspect he has a form of IBD but I'm so anxious about cancer

Thanks in advance

It's looking good, but make sure he gets the results of the biopsies.

There is nothing on there to worry about. They are happy with the routine sampling and don’t expect to have to take further samples Get the results and go from there.

Exactly this.
The biopsy results will take a few days minimum. Mine took a couple of weeks. It isn't easy waiting but they will give you the results asap.

I probably didn't emphasise the 'Get the results' enough. It's important that if you ever have an examination like this that you see them.

Hope your dad gets an all-clear, that they find out what's wrong and a solution.

Thank you everyone.

So can it still look okay on paper and come back with cancer from the biopsies?

Biopsies are also used to help in diagnosing conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease or for infections like h.pylori in the stomach as well as to exclude malignancy so try to remain calm .

testingtesting · 22/08/2024 12:44

Endoscopists will take biopsies to exclude things like Helicobacter Pylori and coeliac disease.
These will take around 2 weeks to come back as they don't appear to have been sent as urgent.
It doesn't look like they have requested a CT ?

user666555 · 22/08/2024 16:40

@testingtesting thank you. No they haven't requested a CT. If there were any visual findings during the endoscopy would they have been written on this report?

From your picture (I can't see what the end of the sentence is about the stomach (the bit about the gastric antrum) it doesn't look like there are any concerning features, and biopsies have been taken to exclude HO, coeliac and gastritis-type things.
If there wA a suspicion of cancer then. Ct would have been requested.
He may end up having a CT Ashe has weight loss Asan indication for the test but that is more belt and braces to exclude any random stuff elsewhere. Presumably he has had a negative FIT test?

user666555 · 22/08/2024 17:51

@testingtesting thank you for your response once again.

Thank you for explaining. I guess it's just a waiting game to see what the biopsies find.

His FIT test result was all clear - he did have protein in his stool (the other stool test that checks for protein).

Are you a doctor? Sorry just curious!

I'm guessing the stool protein you're referring to is faecal calprotectin which is a marker for inflammatory bowel disease. Looks like nothing suspicious was seen to the naked eye on endoscopy but the biopsies are more accurate.

user666555 · 05/09/2024 09:23

Hello,

I've name changed since this post. The endoscopy results came back fine - nothing to worry about.

My dad's got a colonoscopy today and I feel crippled with anxiety. I keep thinking of worst cause scenarios and think we'll be told he has cancer.

The logical side of me knows the doctor requested this due to the suspected IBD as a result of the Calprotecin test... His FIT test was negative but I still can't help but worry.

This is anxiety is so bad I feel like I'm going to be sick :(.

Thanks for the update.
I think you probably should focus your worries on your anxiety.
What if it's going to be much better than you expect?
Try to focus on hoping for the best.
Fingers crossed for you.

user666555 · 05/09/2024 11:17

@ItsFor I'm trying. I've always struggled with my anxiety when it comes to his health. It's just really bad at the moment - trying to distract myself :(

I'm sorry. Thing is the outcome will be the same if you worry, but all the worry might make you ill.
