Asked to attend a meeting

Not really AIBU, but I made a complaint against a GP last week regarding a the care I received and I have been asked to attend a face to face meeting with the liaison officer. Is this standard practice for complaints? I'm a little bit nervous about it all.

It depends on the complaint. They just want to sort it out.

It depends on the nature of the complaint. Is it someone from PALS you’re meeting? They are on your side.

It was in regards to a large weight loss and raised lymph node for 10+ weeks where the GP asked if I had money for food and sent me away with a list of junk food. Instead of looking at my files and seeing I actually have an autoimmune disease on my thyroid that has been stable for a few years. No further testing just made me feel ridiculous and implied that I don't have money to eat.. I'm not sure who it is that wants to meet it just says patient advise and liaison officer

That's PALS and they need to meet with you to gather more details of the complaint. Nothing to be nervous about.

Goodadvice1980 · 21/08/2024 14:34

Is this a GP in a surgery complaint or a doctor in a hospital complaint?

KreedKafer · 21/08/2024 14:46

Who have you complained to? Your NHS Trust? A surgery? The GMC?

It's likely that they just want to ask you some questions so they can gather enough information to handle your complaint correctly. There's nothing for you to worry about - they're not trying to catch you out or prove you wrong! It might be that they're still trying to establish whether they need to investigate further, or it might be that they want to talk you through the next steps or any decisions they've made. But you don't need to be nervous at all - you're not being cross-examined!

Don’t be nervous - this is your opportunity to have your say fully.
