Two weeks ago, I had a tummy tuck and started lymphatic drainage massages as recommended by my surgeon. I chose a therapist who assured me she was fully trained and registered in post-op massage. I paid £430 for six sessions, which is a considerable amount. So far, I’ve had three massages.
On Monday, after my third massage, I went straight to my nurse for a two-week post-op check-up. As soon as I removed my compression garment, the nurse immediately noticed a large seroma that was leaking significantly through my incision. She hadn’t even touched me yet. When I mentioned the massages, the nurse was alarmed, saying that anyone properly trained should have detected the seroma. The fact that I had just come from a massage session and the therapist missed it was concerning. The nurse also checked the post op registration and found that the therapist is not listed, despite her claims. She advised me to request a refund and stop the sessions.
I contacted the therapist to request a partial refund for the three remaining massages based on the nurse’s medical advice. She refused and claimed the seroma must have developed during the 20 minute drive between the massage and the hospital, which I find impossible. Additionally, the nurse pointed out that the therapist used oil, which should not be applied near open incisions during these types of massages.
The therapist has since offered £100, but when I said this was insufficient, she suggested I return for the remaining massages after the seroma is drained. She also said she noticed something on my stomach on Monday but didn’t raise it which I find odd? I’m uncomfortable with returning. Should I request a chargeback with my bank or just accept the £100?
