in theory, a calorie controlled 'diet' can work? right?

AIBU or am I deluded?

TrinityTheProgressingRhino · 16/04/2008 20:43

Dabbles · 16/04/2008 20:54

2 kitkats will send your insulin levels rocketing and lead your body to store the bits it can't get rid of as fat.... a balanced meal, otoh won't send your insulin rocketing and will be digested slower (rather than body going in to panic to get rid of the insulin)... IME

so no, it won't work - but it's a great dream!

Nighbynight · 16/04/2008 21:33

there are lots of factors in losing weight though, eg:
sleeping well seems to help you lose more weight
time of the month
your metabolism being slower before breakfast

Also, do not discount the lack of self control involved in coming down from a sugar high - you might be tempted more to binge.

but on the other hand: sugar turns your appetite off, so could be used after a healthy meal perhaps...

I am losing weight at the moment, and have 50g of chocolate a day. would be too depressing otherwise!

Nighbynight · 16/04/2008 21:34

if you ate ONLY 2 chunky kitkats in a day, you would lose weight. But would feel like hell, I should think.

scaryteacher · 17/04/2008 01:10

And everyone knows food eaten whilst standing up has no calories, so dig out! I can manage two chunky kitkats and have eaten three, but 4 was too much for me once. I was teaching at the time and living on caffeine, white sugar and chocolate.

slim22 · 17/04/2008 01:24

in theory...but you will feel like s**t...

minster · 17/04/2008 08:49

I lost two stones in my first term at university - consuming nothing but cereal & vodka - it would kill me now but I looked fabulous

SheikYerbouti · 17/04/2008 08:50

Get D&V

I have lost 4lbs since yesterday morning because of it.

throckenholt · 17/04/2008 08:54

if you only eat 2 chunky kitkats per day you would certainly lose weight - but I doubt you would feel very good !

zippitippitoes · 17/04/2008 09:06

sugsar content is a bad idea because of what it does ro yoyur metabolism

so no all calories arent really equal

so high sugar or refined foods reach the blood stream quickly and cause the insulin reaction

you will suffer mood swings

and your body will crave sugar again

will lead to depression etc

as well as general lack of good food

much better to follow a low gi plan

and eat only foods that are actively good foryou

combined with exercise which releases endorphins and makes you feel good increases muscle bulk if you do weight resistance in particular and muscle uses up more energy than fat so helps that way too

yanbu
You could on just 2 kit kats ...but it would'nt be enough... it wouldn't fill you up and you would be really hungry

zippitippitoes · 17/04/2008 09:22

no substitute fpor putting in ther time to lose weight imo

i lost just under 5 stone

i have quite evangelical thoughts on a healthy diet and exercise

zippitippitoes · 17/04/2008 09:24

and i have succeeded in keeping it off too

gradually improve your diet and gradually increase your exercise aim to lose about 1 or 2 lbs per week

it will fluctuate a lot but it is possible to do this and not feel particularly hungry

chipmonkey · 17/04/2008 09:56

5 stone, zippi!!! Fantastic!

A calorie is a calorie no matter what its source. So yes, you could in theory have 2 kitkat chunkies instead of a meal of the same calorific content and you would not be any fatter than if you'd eaten the meal.

You would, however, probably feel hungry again pretty quickly and eat more.......

IAmADaddy · 27/04/2008 13:34

I should be shot? Well, thats one way to avoid future calories.....

IAmADaddy · 27/04/2008 13:37

Actually, the best way to stop my cough healthy (yeah right) intake of food would be for DW to chase me with a big stick every time I say "I'm hungry...."

2GIRLS · 27/04/2008 17:24

branflake is right, a calorie is a calorie no matter where it comes from, as long as you eat within your allowance you'll lose weight.

You'll definitely feel hungry again pretty soon after and you'll more than likely crave sugar.
The sugar in the kitkats or any refined sugar converts to glucose in your body very quickly which will lead to an energy surge followed by a fast slump-which leads you to crave more sugar and so on.

But it won't affect your metabolism and unless you're diabetic your body will produce enough insulin to cover the amount of sugar you eat (though a diet high in refined sugar can lead to insulin resistance in the future..)

If you do need to eat chocolate try and have it after a meal as the sugar won't as much of the same effect that way.

zippitippitoes · 27/04/2008 17:28
