Allow them to open the fucking tent in the living room to. "See what it's like"

It's a fucking tent and regardless of how many times you watch the fucking video, Part A might fold into Part B eventually but it certainly wont then fit in the fucking bag. Believe me.

Any other helpful (ha) tips for Festival Virgins?!!

Please, pretty please

Also anyone leaving before the festival ends to ‘beat the traffic’ is not in the spirit of it.

Not good for the band (or the rest of the crowd) when they start pushing through to leave halfway through the headline act!

CatsnCoffeeetal · 22/08/2024 01:34

Tell them to take home/bin their rubbish before leaving the festival site.

I can’t believe any parent would be actively condoning their own kids attend these God awful 'festivals' (which is just a cover for a massive, dirty drug-taking fest). They may be legally adults and that's fine but I'd have nothing to do with it! Like most good parents. To lend them things to take and make suggestions etc is condoning it!!

All this.. What a total shithole festivals are.. really responsible parenting.. especially when they allow their teen kids to go.. Seen this so many times.. Working on the railway after festivals, even 15 year olds like what the F ...

Don’t tell them to sit still and not move from that spot while you go to the toilet

Goingclipclipertycloponthestairs · 22/08/2024 16:09

Omg I have volunteered to drive 5 teens and their stuff back from Leeds on Monday. What have I done?

Timeisnevertimeatall · 22/08/2024 16:42

I dropped off 4 at Reading this morning. It was HEAVING, plus drizzly. DD and friends are in good spirits though, tent up and beer run done. They don't appear to be overly well organised for crap weather - I had to leave my hoody with one because she didn't even have a coat 🙄 "I'll be fine, I've got a jumper somewhere..."

PoliteOtter · 22/08/2024 16:56

I went to one at 16 and I can’t remember taking anything useful except wet wipes. We mainly drank soft drinks, no money for alcohol or drugs. It never occurred to us to leave the tent.

You went to a festival and never left the tent?!

Under no circumstances, the following year, allow them to put up the tent they promised they cleaned and dried, and then wash it out in your house (as it wasn’t in fact clean and smelt of sick), on your slate tiles with underfloor heating on to speed up the drying process!!!

I was out (obviously didn’t give permission) and came back to utter havoc!!!

This guy has a really indepth, scientific explanation of how they work and how to fold them properly. You needsl 3 twists not 2!

These responses are making my day 😂 thankfully DD is going to Reading just for the day! Latitude camping has given her enough memories 😫

Tell me more about latitude camping as I was going to do that

WhoOfWhoville · 23/08/2024 21:03

For next time I’d suggest a WhatsApp group chat with all of the teens + all of their parents - then people can message the whole group to say “we’re all okay” and all parents will benefit from the contact, but the kids batt usage is shared out and they’re not all feeling obliged to be on their phone a lot. Also, in an emergency there’s multiple adults on the other end of the chat to respond or go around to the other parents house to knock on the door, etc.

Timeisnevertimeatall · 23/08/2024 21:49

DD (at Reading) texted this morning (on another beer run) to say there was no reception so her messages hadn't been going through. Not sure her mates want to be in a what's app group with me and I don't know their parents, so would all be a bit weird for us!

listsandbudgets · 27/08/2024 14:55

Well dd came home from a few days volunteering not quite as filthy as I expected but not exactly pristine either

She said that they're weren't many fires this year but that she spent quite a bot of her night shift directing people out of their heads on ketamine to the med centre.

She met quite a few first class idiots as well including one who apparently turned up with a suitcase without a tent wanting to know which tent he'd been allocated!! A few who didn't know the difference between a young woman and a female dog and quite a number with blown down tents.

Overall though she had a brilliant time, managed to see most of the sets she'd hoped for and learnt a lot about dealing with the general public

She was absolutely horrified by the amount of stuff people just left behind
