Will the vet say it’s time?

My Ddog is around 15 years old. Poor eyesight in one eye, struggles to stand back up from laying down, she can’t put wait on her paws, back legs have gone. She can’t even eat her dinner stood up anymore, her legs just go. She still can manage a small walk but doesn’t take long for her legs to go. She sleeps a lot. She’s also starting pooing indoors :( I know I need to get her seen, the thought of her being put down is so sad, she’s been in our family years but of course I don’t want her to suffer.

I am sorry but it has to be your choice not your vets and it sounds to me like its beyond time to let your cat go.
I know how hard it is, we had to have our 14 year old cat PTS a few weeks ago but unless you can make that difficult decision you shoudn't have pets IMO

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 19/08/2024 20:34

Fifteen is such a good age, you’ve given her a good life.
It does sound like it’s time, I’m so sorry. I’d give her a nice last day, cuddle her, a good steak or chicken meal, stay with her and let her go peacefully. You can have sedatives to give at home/before they do it so they’ll be comfortable and not stressed.

We recently had our cat pts and it's the hardest decision. The vet told me you'd rather be a day too early than a day too late. We're never ready to say goodbye, sending a hand hold 💔

DeadbeatYoda · 19/08/2024 20:42

Oh dear. Just today, my son and I were discussing the heartbreak we have experienced when we have had to let our geriatric pets go over the years. There's no consolation when you lose a much loved family pet but we must show our love in compassion for the circumstances of their eventual end. You know your old friend better than anyone. You must trust your instincts.

BobbyBiscuits · 19/08/2024 20:43

It's really sad but it's sounds like now is the time to say goodbye. It's not fair on them to live in so much pain and lacking quality of life.
The vet won't 'suggest' PTS, at least not in my experience. But they will say there's no more they can do to help them.

HoppityBun · 19/08/2024 20:51

I’m sure it’s been said on here already but far better a few days early than a day too late. Don’t wait until life is miserable for him.

SauvignonBlonk · 19/08/2024 21:00

It sounds like it’s time OP. Give her a ton of fuss and love and tell her you love her.
I had my beloved boy put down early last year, I went for the day early rather than day late.

Darkbutstarrynight · 19/08/2024 21:04

Our vet said "when you are wondering if it's time.....it probably is."

RaginaPhalange · 19/08/2024 21:08

Sorry to hear about your dog, but you have to be cruel to be kind in this situation. My dog had liver cancer and was peeing in he house she struggled to get into the house and it's just one step. It was the most hardest decision dh and I had to make. We paid to have her ashes back and have made some lovely keepsakes out of them.

Thanks everyone. She is a rescue. We got her when she was young and she was our firsrt pet as a family and she's grown up with us. This is the first time I have had to go through this. She has had a great life, lots of caravan holidays and travelling. Love her dearly

She is a gorgeous dog, a saluki. Always been very placid and laid back 😔it's hard but you're all right about the not leaving it too late.

I’m so sorry for you. I echo everyone else. You know it is time really it’s just too painful to let go. It’s awful. I really feel that for you. We used dignipets. They come to the house and it was so much better. Peaceful . Sending you so much love and compassion at this time ❤️‍🩹
