Why is my 8 month old drinking less of her bottles at night?

Hi,

Posting on aibu for traffic.

So my 8 month old daughter has been drinking less milk at night. She used to have 2-4 4/5 oz bottles at night however she only now drinks between 1-3 of these oz. The odd occasion she'll have 4oz.

Any idea as to why? Should I be worried?

Thanks

Could just be a phase or maybe she's going off her night time bottle x

She's presumably weaning now and is moving towards getting more of her calories through solids and less through milk. Reducing and then dropping milk feeds is exactly as you'd expect.

As long as she's well, growing, content and eating and drinking during the day then it's nothing to worry about :)

I presume shes eating more at meal times and she’s more full at night

Are you waking her for the night time feed or does she wake for it

If you wake her, stop. Theres no need now

@PoopedAndScooped thank you for your response.

Yes she does eat during the days and has quite a few bottles as she drinks milk in a little and often fashion. She has had a tooth cut through so could this be why?

@sugarplum33 thank you.

Yes she is well in herself. She has had a tooth cut through so I'm wondering if this is why?

@Sinderalla could be! Could it be teething?

Babies naturally drop bottles as they got older.

Cantbebotheredwithausername · 16/08/2024 21:51

If she seems well and eats more solids, I wouldn't worry. Yes, a tooth coming through can be part of the cause. It could also just be because she's taking more of her calories from solid food and is less hungry for the milk bottles. Both are natural and absolutely not a cause for concern. Generally, if your baby is eating/drinking, happy and thriving, you don't need to worry too much about exactly how, what and when she's eating/drinking milk. Just go with whatever feels right to her (you know, within reason - don't practice baby led weaning by starting out with ultraprocessed store bought cookies, but you get the picture). She'll skip her night bottles when she's ready, and starting to wean at 8 months by wanting less milk is perfectly fine.

Hankunamatata · 16/08/2024 21:53

Average age night wean I'd between 6 to 8 months. Might be she doesn't need night bottles any more. Cut down to one instead?

If she doesnt want the milk at night

Let her sleep and you enjoy yours
