I'm about to (hopefully)
I'm reading the Allen Carr book at the moment.

LindorDoubleChoc · 15/08/2024 20:37

Yes! I'm quitting for about the 8th or 9th time (last time i lasted about 10 years). Need to be done with it forever by middle of next week.

Fofftwenty21 · 15/08/2024 21:08

Well done 👏

I quit about 15 years ago reading the Allen Carr book. I used to wake up and light up straight away so still can't believe it, I don't even think about smoking!

Best of luck.

Inlaw · 15/08/2024 21:19

That’s fantastic 😊

@FartingAgainstThunder Goodluck! Let us know when you decide to do it!

@LindorDoubleChoc Have you started yet? I havent successfully quit before. 15 years smoker 😬 Good for you for going again!

@Fofftwenty21 Wow! Amazing 🤩 So glad you don’t think about it anymore! Wonder how long that will take me! 🤣

I read it and stopped completely after smoking for 30 years (on and off, but mostly on) 19 months ago now. Never looked back.

hope it helps you too

I stopped for about 5 years and then got into it again for a few months. I could already feel my chest getting tighter and watching my mum and MIL who both struggle to breath through smoking made me realise I had to stop. I'm already an older mother,, I have to do it for my DD, for myself, for mh husband. I'm coming up on 3 months smoke free and feels much better. Be strong! After a few weeks your feel the benefits and your skin will be glowing as your circulation improves. Best wishes to everyone on the journey 💐

I'm on 25 days and have felt great for the last 10 days.

You may want to ditch the patches as NRT just prolongs the whole process of giving up.

Days 3 and 4 are the toughest, gets easier and easier as the days pass. Let them pass. By 14 days you've cracked it. Just keep going.

CalicoPusscat · 16/08/2024 05:48

I need to quit for good, I'm very on/off. So yes I'll be here too!

Kryten1958 · 16/08/2024 06:05

I quit 30 years ago after many many attempts. I was only able to stay smoke free by accepting that for me, nicotine was as addictive as alcohol is for some people. In other words I was a hopeless 'alcoholic'. So the only way to stay stopped was to never smoke anything again EVER!!

Inlaw · 16/08/2024 12:43

Thanks @greatvisuals

That is something to consider.

I am going to taper down the NRT and going on holiday in 2 weeks so going to ditch the patches then as you can't swim with them.

There's no way I could do this without the NRT. I tried last time and just couldn't!!!

Try the book by Allen Carr.

KimFan · 16/08/2024 13:46

Just some words of encouragement really! You CAN do it. I will be a year smoke-free on 3rd November and quitting was the best thing I have ever done. I used to love smoking but can honestly say I don't miss it one bit. Take it a day at a time and keep going. You won't regret it! :) x

Hello @Inlaw and anyone else quitting! How is it going? I'm on day 3 and managing my cravings by not drinking (I was a late afternoon and evening smoker only, about 5 - 7 cigarettes a day). Because for me, wine and cigs go together.

Even though I've relapsed many times over the years, I never went back to the all-day 20 a day smoking habits of my youth, thank God!

I'm fully prepared for today to be quite tricky later on, but I know I can grit my teeth and get through it. I'll be buying some really nice, expensive soft drinks to have later ... you need to do whatever it takes to get through the cravings at first but they really don't last long. Listen to me giving advice! Hmm.

Welldone 😊 Fellow day 3er!
