Hi all,

Currently band C with my council due to being asked to leave my parents house

Currently ranking 11-20 on new builds.

Does anyone have any experience of the same situation and can offer any advice or hopeful word 😂

Thank you

Have you actually gone to the council as homeless?
Or are you still at your parents?

ConsuelaHammock · 13/08/2024 20:29

Asked to leave or requested your parents ask you to leave? How old are you and how many dependants do you have ?

I have advised them that I've been asked to leave by the end of next month.

Bidded on houses and today see that it's being shortlisted and I'm 11-20

They won't do anything until you are actively homeless.
You may also end up in emergency accommodation first as well.

Band C isn't very high round here S/E. Think i read a rough wait for a 3 bed is 7+ years. They are building more properties for older people so the older generation move out, as their under occupied .
Our council also work with LL to help people I believe.
What area are you in? Do you have children? Health condition?

Singleandproud · 13/08/2024 20:32

If it's only you then you'll (probably) get housed fairly quickly once your parents kick you out and you end up in temporary housing.

If you are a family waiting for a 2bed+ you are likely going to be on the list a while. Your band will likely increase once you have to leave your parents.

Other options, house share or obviously depending on your experience and qualifications... live in jobs, cruise ships, field study centres, hotel, au pair / nanny.

x2boys · 13/08/2024 20:33

Nobody can really say it depends on where you live and how many properties are available.

I'm in Cheshire with a 12 year old & no medical

I've only been bidding for a couple of weeks and it's showing 11-20 on the ranking once the bidding is closed

Cheshire banding

At the minute you are C and at risk of homelessness, on the day your parents make you homeless you go to the housing office and say that you are now homeless with a child this will move you to band A, you'll be put into temporary housing like a B&B and then continue bidding from there.

If your DD has another parent she can stay with them that can mean you are C for longer.

Sounds like you’re doing quite well. Band C in my area wouldn’t get a look in. Band A would be lucky to be placing in top 20.

mitogoshi · 13/08/2024 20:50

If you have no medical why not rent privately. Councils have schemes for deposits if that's the issue. As your dc is 12 you can work full time

I do work full time and I am looking at private rent too but the prices are crazy at the min.

Never had to do this before so was unsure as to what is good progress

@Anniepiee

Have your parents explained why they are asking you and your daughter to move out, OP?

Yes, the house is just too small for everyone and it's really starting to take its toll

It completely depends on area. I waited 6 years on band C (south east) and had to go through temporary emergency hostels & b&bs during that time.

Some areas you might get something within a couple of years but others eg London you may never get somewhere.

You need to ask the council directly & see what emergency housing they can offer in the meantime. You should get b&b rather than hostel with a child. You may get offered something better if you are willing to go out of area.
