To be worried about eating a wild blackberry while pregnant

Erin343 · 13/08/2024 19:35

Me and DS was playing around walking home and he picked a blackberry off a high up bush and ate it. He tossed one to me and I ate it. I then realised you can’t eat unwashed fruit while pregnant can you? I’ve now been panicking reading Google and I’m really worried about Toxoplasmosis. I’m 8 weeks pregnant. What should I do now?

What do you get from being nasty to the @op? You make yourself look like a dick.

Nasty? 😅 it was a silly play on mumsnetters putting D in front of everyone and everything. No different than all of the other comments that have told OP to get a grip and enjoy her fruit!

INeedAnotherName · 13/08/2024 20:30

Not the point but if I catch a blackberry it gets splatted in my hand. How do you catch one and not squish it? 🤔

Usernammme · 13/08/2024 20:32

I’m 8 weeks pregnant too. Went blackberry picking with my kids today. Ate quite a few before we took them home and washed them. I’m a doctor and, whilst I’d probably recommend washing them, I’m not at all concerned. Hope you’re able to stop worrying and feel OK!

No, that's black currants.

Is this AI or a troll thread? I honestly haven’t seen or thought about blackberries in years and now three threads in a week.

In case this is real, yes, OP, you will be fine. If you remain worried after what I’m sure will be a thread full of reassurance, speak with your midwife.

100% this.

Mumsnet is overrun with ridiculous posts at the moment. No doubt op will be back and say 'thank you for the kind posts. Every one else needs to remember how to 'be kind'

It's actually concerning she has a child and is about to bring child 2 into her life to be impacted by her poor mental health and anxiety

I refuse to believe this is real

There sure seems to be a pattern emerging with blocks of threads on the same subjects.

And AI isn’t appearing to be very intelligent.

loulouljh · 13/08/2024 20:36

Seriously? Relax.

RunningThroughMyHead · 13/08/2024 20:38

This isn't a risk. Your baby will be absolutely fine and not affected.

Erin343 · 13/08/2024 20:39

These replies have honestly cheered me up, just sat with DP now laughing 😂 Could say I’m slightly embarrassed 🤣

I often think the same thing - that we have fake copycat threads or, more deep-state level cynical, that MN have staff writers - it's like the newspapers in the summer - you read one story about a dog being abducted and then being mysteriously being found wearing a tutu and a tiara and then every other newspaper quickly follows up with near identical stories. Stories with high engagement means lots of pages views and an increase in ad revenue and click through rates etc..

LoneHydrangea · 13/08/2024 20:44

You’ve had a child. What on earth were you like the first time you were pregnant if you’re freaking out over a blackberry?

With you there. Anyway, as predicted, the OP has been cheered up so all is good with the world.

Hi Op, if you are worried Tommy’s say this: “Women are not routinely offered a test for toxoplasmosis as part of their antenatal care. But if you are worried, you can ask your midwife or GP for a blood test to check for the infection at any time during pregnancy.”
My sister was infected during pregnancy, but the baby was ok. The chance of babies getting it is apparently 1 in 10, 000.

What tests will I have during pregnancy?

Your midwife or doctor will give you information about the tests they offer during pregnancy. These tests are to check that you and your baby are well.

That's because it's blackberry season. I picked a lot of blackberries last week and made a lovely apple and BB crumble

Thepeopleversuswork · 13/08/2024 20:52

In the kindest possible way this is a non issue and I would worry more about the kind of mental state that’s got you here than I would about eating a blackberry. Are you usually quite anxious about stuff like this?

Its a complete non event. Don’t give it any more thought.

It absolutely is blackberry season (seems early) they are in abundance! As are the loony posters banging on about being terrified of eating them .

lmhj · 13/08/2024 20:55

I'm glad you are laughing but I'm worried about what on earth brought you to that and the fact this is not first baby!!

Read some wonderful PFB threads on here and been part of them but this has to be heading for classics for a second baby.

Enjoy pregnancy OP, relax, eat those berries.

Makingchocolatecake · 13/08/2024 22:35

I never wash fruit or veg, including when I was pregnant

Adviceneeeeded · 13/08/2024 22:46

Do people forget fruit and veg grows in the ground, on trees and bushes before going to the super market...
You will be fine op
