To think these domestic things make sense and I’m not being lazy?

There are various things that I do at home that just make sense to me and I can’t understand on a domestic level why anyone would put themselves out further? This has come up in a conversation with friends who found it hilarious and ridiculous that I do this. I can see the funny side (sort of!) but surely others do this too?

Carrots… I just snap the ends off by hand and put them in the pan rather than chopping with a knife. Why use a knife when you can snap it off?! Same for other veg where it works.

The dishwasher… why empty and put in cupboards? With the exception of mugs, I never ever empty the dishwasher as I just take what is needed then when it’s dirty put it back ready for the next wash?

Clothes… hang them on the two clothes airers and never put them away. I don’t have loads of clothes so that probably helps but literally why put them away?! They are in the spare room perfectly accessible once dry.

There’s other things but this is the general idea. I just don’t get why you would make more work for yourself? Surely others do the same?!

What has 5 people got to do with anything? I specifically stated that in OP’s position, just her and a 3 year old, it’s wasteful. Stop making things up just to try to provoke an argument 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

I was responding specifically to the post you directed to me, which did not mention the op of her situation but only talked about your situation and your opinion on wasting resources.

And sadly there are plenty of folk like you who care more about themselves than anyone or anything else.

Ah yes, us pesky disabled folks, managing our domestic tasks in such a way as to not cause us further illness or injury (or trying to avoid more work being heaped on already over worked carers)… we really do only care about ourselves.

Read it again, my actual specific post:

”Running a dishwasher every night for you and a three year old is horrendously wasteful. You must have more money than sense 🤣”

Nothing to do with 5 people, everything to do with one adult and a small child. If you then choose to reply about disability and 5 people then that’s your look out, and is not a response to the point I was making.

That wasn’t the post you quoted me in- as I said I was responding to the post you specifically directed at me.

But you’d not mentioned a number of people, and your attitude was “fuck that, my convenience is worth more”, not “I run my dishwasher every night because it’s genuinely full by then”.

If you have a 5 person household then obviously you’d need to run a dishwasher more. Whereas doing so just because it suits you (whether necessary or not) is not an attitude I can get behind.

No- my attitude is I’m disabled, I can’t actually empty a dishwasher and put the stuff in a cupboard, it’s physically impossible. My carer is chronically over worked and we have to muddle through somehow-

so yeah, it would be better for the environment if we could manage the dishwasher situation differently, but it isn’t possible and I don’t think in the grand scheme of things I need to feel overly guilty about it.

As I said, if that means I care more about myself than anyone or anything else so be it.

FuglyBitch · 18/08/2024 10:03

The dishwasher thing is gross. Don’t you peel your carrots? It takes 2 seconds to use a knife to chop the ends. I like seeing all my ironed clothes in my wardrobe to make decisions quicker every morning

Cherrysoup · 18/08/2024 10:06

Can’t glaze whole carrots, can’t bear plain boiled ones.
Putting dirty/clean dishes in the machine is disgusting.
I quite like tidying away clothes in the right place.

Possibly they don't have a lot of dishes and want them clean in the morning. Judge not that you be not judged is a good maxim.
Also, I have lots of clothes, brightly coloured, fabrics which need a gentle wash etc. I tend to wash colours together which means more than one wash for a load of washing - and I put sheets and towels through at 60 + degrees, because this gets rid of any nasties that might be around. I am alone, now, but I like my clothes clean and my sheets well-washed (though not ironed). Perhaps I too am being selfish from your pov since I am wasting water doing lots of small washes?

Throwing made up scenarios that are different to the question posed is completely irrelevant.

as for colours etc, I’ll literally wait til I have enough whites to fill the washer before I do a white wash, (and I don’t have that many!) because I’m not keen on waste. That’s just how I roll. The thread asks a question, this is my answer.

Judge not that you be not judged is a good maxim.

Indeed.

But horrible English 😂

It’s verse 7:1 in Matthew (King James version)- it’s a bit of a clunky translation for sure.

All sounds a little bit manky tbh. But whatever floats your boat.
