Botox and fillers before wedding- breastfeeding

Tandbiscuits · 13/08/2024 14:46

Posted here for traffic, I’ve got my wedding coming up and I’d like to do Botox and fillers but I’m still breastfeeding ( 10 month old).
Has anyone done it and just stopped / given the bottle for a few days and then carried on BF?
One NHS advice I saw said they recommend stopping for 24-48h after an injection of Botox.

Big no with breastfeeding isn't it?

nomchonge1 · 13/08/2024 14:53

I thought it was 2 weeks to stop? Youll be hard pushed to find a decent person that will knowingly inject someone who is BF. I think either dont get it, or stop BF. Not worth the risk.

Disillusionedwithlife · 13/08/2024 14:53

Surely your baby is more important than botox?

PKNI · 13/08/2024 14:53

I hope you have a wonderful wedding, and a long and happy marriage. Would you consider just having your own naturally beautiful and glowing face on your big day? Suitably made up if you want to gild the lily! I've seen some people who just don't look like themselves with Botox and fillers - what if you get it done and aren't happy with the results? And have you thought about how you might be uncomfortable if you don't breast feed for a few days, and maybe have leakage to deal with? Might it disrupt your supply if you do want to continue feeding? Entirely your own decision, I hope you're happy no matter with or without treatments x

Moveoverdarlin · 13/08/2024 14:54

I’d carry on breastfeeding and sack off the Botox and fillers.

pinkfleece · 13/08/2024 14:55

You want to get a neurotoxin injected into your body while you are breastfeeding?
Right.
That sounds sensible.

wingingit1987 · 13/08/2024 14:56

I’d prioritise breastfeeding. Absolutely not worth the risk.

wickerlady · 13/08/2024 14:57

I'm yet to meet anyone who looks better with fillers.

Congratulations on your baby and upcoming wedding 🎉🍾

Why are people being complete dicks? She’s literally asking for advice on the guidance, she’s not said anywhere she’s ’putting Botox above her baby’ or trying to fill her child with toxins ffs. She’s asking because she doesn’t know, so why not actually help if you can instead of being nasty for absolutely no reason?
Op I don’t have a clue about Botox unfortunately, but have you ever had it before? I’d be worried about getting work done and you may end up hating it before your wedding

HazelWicker · 13/08/2024 15:05

I have Botox for medical reasons. My NHS consultant refused to administer whilst bf. He said there is no guidance to it being OK or OK after x time. I went pretty much three years without my Botox as a result.

Ponoka7 · 13/08/2024 15:13

If you can pump, then just bottle feed for the full recommended time of 48 hours. There isn't evidence that it crosses over into milk. Failing that, the photographer can photoshop and airbrush if you don't like how you look.

Universalsnail · 13/08/2024 15:14

Both lactmed and infant risk put the risk from getting Botox during breastfeeding at very low risk. There are only limited studies but from the studies that are there it doesn't seem like there is much transmission to worry about. Lactmed even says that it's unlikely Botox enters breast milk.

Not much evidence pumping and dumping will work in this situation either but if you wanted to you could pump and dump for 48 hours but you'd be risking the breastfeeding relationship, although at 10 months you'll probably be fine doing that, but doing so would just be a precaution. Tbh I probably wouldn't bother with it as there's no evidence it would be helpful.

Based on this personally the risk from Botox when breastfeeding seems very small and very unlikely to cause harm.

So it's your call really. If you decide to get it done I wouldn't worry too much. Personally I've taken other medications with similar low risks when nursing and I don't think what lactmed says is concerning.

But also you probably don't need Botox to look nice on your wedding day. Have you had it done before? If you haven't you might not like how it makes you look, so like maybe it's not worth any tiny risk. Totally your call. No judgment from me.

I haven’t done this yet but am also keen to get Botox again while BF and would be interested to know what a “safe” gap would be. I wish Botox/filler companies would do some controlled trials to find out the actual risk of these substances going into breastmilk is. I did find this article which suggests it’s a low risk for Botox www.liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/fpsam.2023.0326

Here is a post on a website called Parent Data which reviews the medical evidence for and against Botox during breastfeeding and does not judge either way, just gives you the facts.

A hand wearing latex gloves holds a vial of clear liquid and a syringe.

Can I Use Botox When I’m Pregnant or Breastfeeding?

How can they do a controlled trial without babies being put at risk during the trial?

She literally is putting Botox before her baby because she’s willing to stop breastfeeding in order to inject toxins into her body.

Such a difficult trial to manage ethically though. You'd need lactating women, which means there would necessarily be a breastfed baby per woman.

How would the breastfeeding relationship be managed and maintained whilst the levels of toxin were measured in the breast milk? How would the trial organisers make sure the mothers abstained from breastfeeding their babies for the duration of the trial, until the results were in?

YouveGotAFastCar · 13/08/2024 15:30

No, I wouldn't.

Both because it's untested, but also because at 10 months, two or three days off breastfeeding could well be the the end of your journey, and I'd have been really sad about that. It wouldn't be the reminder of my wedding that I'd wanted!

berriesvie · 13/08/2024 15:32

None of the practitioners here will inject pregnant or breastfeeding women. I'm not sure what difference stopping for a few days would make.

VickyEadieofThigh · 13/08/2024 15:33

It's a TOXIN. Please don't.

reelcat · 13/08/2024 15:49

Under no circumstances would I contemplate doing such a ridiculous thing.

Luluem · 13/08/2024 15:56

My practitioner has a very hard and fast “no Botox” with BF and pregnancy and I respect her for it

She’s breastfed her baby for 10 months in a society that does very little to support and encourage breastfeeding. If she wanted to completely stop breastfeeding now, for any reason at all, she’d be completely valid to do so.

time2changeCharlieBrown · 13/08/2024 16:22

not what you asked but after i stopped bf my lo tried randomly a few times to start again after over a week!! So recon you could start up again if you did wait a while but think Botox is in you for months and fillers a year or more? So im not sure
it probably won’t go in the milk but I guess no one wants thier child to be the guinea pig
