Delivery driver came into house uninvited

I just had quite an unnerving experience – I work from home and am at home on my own. Eating lunch downstairs and all of a sudden my dog starts going crazy and I hear the front door opening. It turns out a delivery driver decided to let himself through our front gate without ringing the bell (which is really obvious) and open our front door without knocking to deliver a parcel... I've never had this happen before and am really shaken up by it. I normally have the front door locked when I'm home alone but had been going in and out and obviously didn't lock it when I came back in with stuff in my arms last. Why on earth would a delivery driver come into someone's house uninvited?! Why not just leave the parcel outside the front door or the front gate (as is often done)? He then kept trying to take photos of the parcel as I was asking him to leave and obviously quite upset. Am I over reacting or is this really out of line?

You live in London and you don't have a front door that automatically locks when it closes? are you mad?

(from a fellow Londoner!)

Agree 💯. See it as a warning and take your security more seriously.

I agree it’s weird for the driver to walk inside the house or even open any of the house doors without specific instructions. I’d raise it with the delivery company. The pictures - I understand- companies lose a lot of money from people claiming they didn’t get their package.
also- Schlage locks- ours locks automatically after 30 seconds of closing the door.

An Amazon delivery driver did this to me a few weeks ago, just opened my front door and walked in to deposit the parcel in my hallway

I was watching TV with my 5 year old at the time and jumped up as fast as my 7 months pregnant legs would carry me to ask what was going on! He seemed shocked that I was shocked if anything

Maybe it's more common than I thought? I get parcels regularly and have never had this happen... I wanted to post before reporting it in case I was over reacting. I think I will still report as even if it is happening I don't think it should be. Who just walks into someone's home?!

Who owns this ? All the delivery people on all the other threads about this 😁

Have you got a diagram like the poster lost week, we really next to see one to visualise

Thank goodness you had the dog there.

I was surprised when visiting my sister in a major US city that the postie would open her door and put the post or parcels down - I guess theft is the issue with leaving in the doorstep but he didn't ring the bell or knock, and she said it was a regular thing!
I've never had a delivery guy open my door (well they can't as it locks automatically) and you can only open it with a key.
Report him for sure.

There was a similar thread to this recently when it was the postie letting themselves in and the OP got mostly roasted for objecting. I don't give a shit if the door is unlocked, you do not just walk in to someone's home uninvited.

I live in a pretty safe village and my door is usually unlocked during the time I'm there, I still don't expect people to just stroll in!

I'm surprised they do it tbh, my dog is ancient and the driver would probably have left by the time he'd ambled over to the door but there could be anything waiting for them inside!
