To think clothes become chavvy after age 2.

I loved looking for clothes for the children up to 18-24 months. After this, instead of the nice pastels, flowers, bears etc it becomes tracksuit bottoms for boys with slogans or garish patterns. It all looks cheap and nasty. Even a lot of the Next stuff is particularly bad for little boys.

I love the Boden/ Frugi / Blade & Rose stuff but most of that is not an affordable day to day option with 3 under 3 ( Vinted and sale shopping aside).

I like my children to be nicely dressed, not in awful tracksuit type outfits. I don't understand why at least up to 5 they don't have more of the baby / toddler designs. More pretty pinafore and soft colours for girls and dungarees, bears, blues, browns and burnt oranges for boys etc.

How anyone can have a pop at 'garish patterns' and then cite Frugi as a favourite, I don't know. They are hilariously garish!

God I hate Frugi. Except weirdly loved their prints on nappies.

I don’t agree with using the word chavvy and all it implies but I do agree it’s very hard to find nice boys clothes in high street shops once they’re a bit older. I don’t know why everything has to be emblazoned with characters - what three year old is watching Spider-Man? And I hate that suddenly 80% of the options are drab shades of olive, petrol blue and black.

My favourite brands are similar to yours - frugi, little green radicals, pigeon organics etc but yes they aren’t cheap. I sometimes get good buys on vinted.

Blade and rose leggings are my absolute favourite thing to have my son in!

Thats what he goes to the park in to climb.

Edited

I know some people like them but other leggings are available to climb in.

I really dislike Nike or Adidas tracksuits on kids but Next have a range of tracksuits in different colours. My two boys live in them. They are so comfy and imo look nice. We probably have them in every colour and they look cute matching. For my girls I don't like dresses unless it's for an occasion
Again imo Next leggings and top sets are the way to go.

Im surprised b&r leggings go up to age 3-4. Those things would look so babyish/ridiculous on a 4 year old. I couldn't imagine putting my ds in them now at 4.

Singleandproud · 17/08/2024 09:43

@tuttuttutt not all children wear age aligned clothing, DD has always been off the scale tall and was in age 4 at the age of two and it's great to find age appropriate clothes that cater for taller children.

True. My ds definitely wouldn't fit into them but I wouldn't have put him in them at 2 or 3 either. They look a bit embarrassing for park wear.

A lot of things are tacky yes but you can find nice things too. For affordable options I think Sainsbury's are the best supermarket option and M&S have lovely things too.

My toddler girl insists on twirly dresses so they spin! And is attracted to pink, sparkles, frills etc. Like a magnet!

I do find plenty of more subtle stuff in Next but love charity shops too, mostly she likes soft well-washed dresses and prefers brights or vibrant patterns.

From a practical view, I like her in bright clothes as it's easier to keep track of her in playgrounds!

MamaLenny · 26/04/2025 11:17

Because they go to nursery around that age and get covered in paint/mud/yoghurt (as they should)

ForOliveMember · 26/04/2025 11:48

Just googled blade and rose leggings, they would look silly on a 3 year old wouldn't they?

chocopuffs · 26/04/2025 12:10

I sort of agree that some clothes aren’t as nice for older kids (Lindex I’m looking at you - such cute prints for small kids then it goes a bit mad after 4ish). But sorry, I agee with PP that those B&R leggings are dreadful on anything but babies. They look like tights!
