If a man was sat on a bench online at 8pm whilst there is kids playing and watching them. Pacing up and down whilst on the phone saying ‘one girl, one girl‘ to someone. Couldn’t hear what else they were saying

Sounds very dodgy. I would call the police.

What's the crime you'd be reporting?

Dragon17 · 11/08/2024 20:15

I think he may have watched us leave and gone round the other way to end up bumping into us. He seems to be just pacing around, looking around

Sheelanogig · 11/08/2024 20:16

Take a photo/video of him and report to police. They might be known...

moggo · 11/08/2024 20:18

It's not about reporting a crime because no crime has happened. It's about making the police aware of something that could potentially be a crime. If something was to happen to a child, the OP would never forgive herself. The police will either look into or not. Either way, no harm done.

Dragon17 · 11/08/2024 20:18

he looked at us then we left and he is now just stood outside a shop. Just seemed weird. He was watching other children play. Then when we left he came out at the same exit as us by walking round. And the ‘one girl, one girl’ sounds dodgy. Just seems he’s up to something

OP posts:
HelloMiss · 11/08/2024 22:53

So what happened?

Dragon17 · 11/08/2024 23:56

Nothing in the end, he seemed to disappear and me and DD got back to the car and couldn't seem him around anywhere. Just seemed strange though. Even some of the early teens in the park were saying why is he sat watching us alone on a bench.. It wasn't a big community park or anything like that. It was a larger than average gated play area with a area of grass and a football net and walk through bit leading to another exit/entrance with a couple of benches facing the play area.

Sounds dodge. Report to police for info. See if hes loitering tomorrow. Maybe he was looking at your child if he left when you left? Worrying in any case. Nonces are everywhere 👀

AdoraBell · 12/08/2024 00:04

I would report him.

Bellsandthistle · 12/08/2024 00:05

Why would he be saying “one girl, one girl” over and over and loudly enough for anyone to hear if he had nefarious purposes? Is it possible he was speaking a language you don’t understand? People are allowed to sit on public benches.

Dragon17 · 12/08/2024 00:13

It defientaly sounded like one girl, one girl. Said twice. This was as we were passing as my DD wanted to go on the slide but the other part of the conversation we were too far away to hear. He was just watching everyone and was staring at the older kids that were playing football for a while. He then kept standing up off the bench and pacing up and down and just acting a bit strange. It just seemed odd to me that he was sat in a gated play area. This was just a play area with grass are and football pitch with two large gates to enter/exit. It felt strange that he left when we left but used the other gate and then appeared at the exit that we left at. He then didn't seem to have an idea of where he was actually going after that, he was just sort of loitering in the area, stood outside a shop still on his phone, looking around but then seemed to disappear. Maybe nothing, just seemed a bit off.

PolkaDotty1 · 12/08/2024 00:28

I would have been creeped out knowing he had walked round to appear at the exit that you and DD took, knowing he might have watched you leave and that he left at the same time.

Chillihealer19 · 12/08/2024 05:16

Sounds odd to me, I would keep an eye out, see if you see him there again hanging around.

mamajong · 12/08/2024 05:32

Just report to 111 and they'll decide what to.do next. If you report and it's nothing, no harm done, but if you don't and later here somethings happened, the regret would be overwhelming

Or better to report to 101, the police non-emergency number, than NHS Direct on 111.

Everyone saying "ring the police" - what do you actually think they'll do?

They don't turn up for actual crimes, they're not going to pop along to a local park because someone's rung in to say a man is on his phone and "loitering". 🤦🏻‍♀️

Im sorry that you have had a negative experience but that doesn’t mean people should stop informing the police if they see something that is suspicious. You don’t know what they already know. They could have someone known to them who has some kind of order in place preventing them from going to certain areas. They might have had other calls.

Zanatdy · 12/08/2024 06:47

Yes I’d have rang 101, might seem minor but that’s not normal behaviour and I’d let the police know

sunsetsandboardwalks · 12/08/2024 06:47

@OraettaMayflower I've actually never had a negative experience but I just don't believe they're going to do a single thing about a man on a phone in a park 🤷‍♀️

TroysMammy · 12/08/2024 06:52

Without knowing the other side of the conversation and what was said before or after it's a bit dramatic jumping to conclusions. He could have been talking to a mate who had been dumped "she's one girl, one girl ....... There's plenty more fish in the sea".

NaiceMaker · 12/08/2024 10:45

No I wouldn't call the Police.
