Posting for AIBU traffic.

Yesterday evening my LO came to me and said his scalp and armpit were itchy he seems to have spots/bites in these areas - the armpit is the worst. As of this morning he also has another 4 marks but all scattered, one at the bottom of his tummy, 2 on his shoulders and one lower on his back. His older brother whose bed he sneaks into also has 2 marks.
We have a dog however it is regularly treated and is showing no signs of fleas or anything of the sort, also had a thorough bath as a precaution this morning but found nothing.
We have encapsulated bedbug protectors on all our beds and I have stripped them all, washed bedding and turned them upside down but there is no sign of anything there.
Is someone able to tell me what these could be before I set flame to my house?
I can't take them to the pharmacy for a while due to car situation so trying to find answers in the meantime.

Bird mites?

Sometimes birds die in your eaves, soffits or attic, and mites feed off the carcass, and then when that's gone they need another source of food. Their instinct is to search out carbon dioxide to detect a living being, so the nearest source is often humans sleeping, and letting out CO². They'll crawl down gaps between bricks, plasterboard and electrical cabling and enjoy a good feast on you while you're asleep.

I believe they're tiny tiny pin prick white dots so very hard to spot on white bedding.

Parents have had them and OHs workmate. You'll have to get pest control in, and remove the decaying bird from wherever it is.

If I'm right, and obviously it might be spider bites rather than mites, then most likely to be above your youngest sons room as it's him being bitten most.

They look like mosquito bites to me...?

Mosquito bites.

JC03745 · 11/08/2024 10:09

Are they itchy or sore? How old are the kids? They look like hives from something.
Whatever it is, I'd be giving an antihistamine and using a prednisone cream to help with inflammation and the itch.

They look like mosquito bites to me as well but I didn't think they usually went for the scalp and so much? And I can't remember the last time I saw a mosquito in the house.

The bird mites sound terrible! We have a little woodland with all sorts of birds and wildlife across the road... definitely no dead birds inside the house though.
And the majority of the bites appeared yesterday before bed...

Heat spots, or heat rash.
they are very itchy and usually go down in a day or two, tell him not to itch.

They are itchy @JC03745

My son had this, armpits looked identical. I rubbed oil on them and it helped a lot. I put it down to heat/sweating. No mozzies, pets or dead birds here!

twomanyfrogsinabox · 11/08/2024 10:42

Some sort of bites with an allergic reaction, take over the counter anti-histamine pills and treat with topical insect bite cream. I use Anthisan. It doesn't really matter exactly what bit you, the treatment is the same, if they don't get better or the reaction gets really bad, see a doctor. I get persecuted by the little biters, rarely know exactly what, I seem to be allergic to lots of them, mossies, midges, fleas, spider bites and any number of other things lurking in the garden.

Floatlikeafeather2 · 11/08/2024 11:21

Do your sons feel ok? Is it possible they could have chicken pox?

mm81736 · 11/08/2024 11:27

They just look like mosquito bites to me

DipDopDooDa · 11/08/2024 16:06

Certainly could be heat rash.
Hives in general is an allergic reaction. I believe the bumps are little pockets of fluid (histamine)

Go the the pharmacist and get some kids antihistamines, as this should help with the symptoms whatever the cause.

I would say they are flea bites - we had no sign of them either but sprayed with Indorex (we don't even have a pet!) and it stopped.
I think they'd been lying dormant in the floorboards/carpet since we moved in, but the warm weather brought them out.
