To expect to know when DH will be home from work?

Please let me know if you just accept it as normal, because I find it very hard to deal with.

He works away a lot so we have our own routine here (me and DC), but when he is back he is very shaky with letting me know when he'll be back. He often states a time, then comes home four hours later, with no apology. Or he'll come home earlier than he said so I am in the middle of bathing or settling the children which is just frustrating.

I know he has a stressful job but a little respect wouldn't be too bad.

I used to have to put up with this, but now DH will call as he is leaving work to let me know what timeish he will be back. He works away Monday to Friday generally, but not always. I tell him to call if he is going to be home/not going to be home as it makes a difference as to what I cook for dinner/whether I keep the boys up an extra half an hour etc etc.

The thing that bugs me more is that he often doesn't know until a Monday morning what he is doing that week. It's actually easier if he is working outside of the UK as he then knows exactly what is happening that week iyswim.

You have my sympathy. A short call would be too difficult for him.
