What is here in the body?

Weird question but I’m having pain on and off. More often on in the areas circled. It’s mainly left side. Dull ache sort of pain. What is there? Basically just above the breast area but not actually my breast? Just above basically. Excuse the redness. Think it’s an anxiety rash. I’m worried I’ve got lung cancer in both lungs or something

It's really hard to say what body part is there in the picture. Above the breast as in below the collar bone?
Are you breathless? Do you cough? I think it is pretty damn unlikely to have pain with lung cancer unless there are other symptoms present. And, from what I understand with my FIL's experience, he actually felt pain in the arms, neck and shoulders more so than locally over the lungs. And by that point he already could barely walk due to breathlessness.
Might be muscular.
Have you talked to your GP about it?

PiperBurrito · 10/08/2024 18:22

When I had pneumonia the pain was in my shoulder and upper back, and the top of my chest. It was accompanied by very severe breathlessness.

sunsetsandboardwalks · 10/08/2024 18:23

Your chest?

You say you think your rash is anxiety related - anxiety can also cause chest pain, breathlessness etc.

Ice97 · 10/08/2024 18:23

Yes below the collar bone. I have no breathlessness or cough. Just the on and off dull ache in that area. Mainly the left side

It’s not the entire chest. Just comes and goes in those areas on left and right side. But left is more often. I was worried that my lungs were there

It's probably anxiety as you're worrying about. Call 111 for some advice

sunsetsandboardwalks · 10/08/2024 18:27

Chest pain is a very common sign of anxiety.

MonsteraMama · 10/08/2024 18:28

Jumping straight to worrying about lung cancer from a bit of pain in your chest and zero other symptoms of lung cancer is worrying. Like... You feel heart burn pain there. Is it not far more likely to be heart burn than lung cancer?

HighHeelsOnCobblestones · 10/08/2024 18:30

There’s muscle between each of your ribs, they’re called intercostal muscles. It’s possible to strain them and that can cause pain.

I would hazard a guess that is is muscular. Anxiety can also present as chest pain but I am a bit nervous suggesting that (even though it is true) because I know how many people's symptoms are dismissed as anxiety by GPs. Either way, it does not sound like a lung problem and, very likely, isn't life-threatening. But is always worth checking in with your GP if you are concerned and/or if it gets worse.

Honestlynotsure · 10/08/2024 19:21

Its anxiety. The fact you've even posted this shows how overly anxious you are. Are you seeking help for your anxiety?

Ohdearyme72 · 10/08/2024 19:27

I had these pains when I went through a really bad anxiety patch

ChristmasFluff · 10/08/2024 19:37

I would adivse you to see your GP. I was a physio and a dull ache is not something I would normally expect with muscular or chostochondral pain.

I do not think it is cancer either, but I do think it is worth seeing you GP. I don't want to make your anxiety worse, but again, dull aching is not the 'usual' pain people get with anxiety, so I would always want a GP to check out this sort of thing first.

Truly, this is not something anyone on MN can help you with. See your GP
