I have really dry skin
My budget is small so whatever’s in Boots or Superdrug
I need a THICK fragrance free moisturiser

Tried Embryolisse and Skin Food and neither agree with me, I used to love blue tin Nivea but the spots that come with it aren’t worth it

Thank you :D

Weleda skin food.

I'd get a inexpensive but decent hyaluronic acid (Me+ Hyaluronic Booster from Superdrug is good, £7) and then something like The Ordinary NMF or Elf Holy Hydration Face Cream. Or, use an oil rather than a cream - I love Trilogy Rosehip oil.

No 7 moisturiser, preferably the anti aging because that is a lot thicker, (and not a slight I’ve been using it since 15 and everytime I try to find something cheaper it never works and I always end up back to that)

Embryolisse was a disaster for me! I was so disappointed after all the hype.

My skin is dry, dehydrated, sensitive and highly reactive. Simple thick white creams are your friend…

E45
Cerave - the big tub not the face cream
Cetaphil - the big tub again

La Roche Posey and Avene are also great if you can spend a bit more - but still Boots prices.

Face, body, heels?

My favourite for hands, knees, elbows and heels is O'Keefe Working Hands. Neutrogena Unfragranced is excellent, very concentrated so a drop goes a long way, but I prefer the texture and spreadability of O'Keefe. Palmers do an unfragranced Intensive Relief Hand Cream which is also good, but the O'Keefe is easier to find.

Palmers do another which doesn't seem to have a name (see photo) really nice body cream. When I want to do an intensive overnight treatment I slather loads on and cover with cotton gloves or socks or sleeves.

For face, Simple or Boots Ingredients serums seem to be very good value for money. I slop them all over, not just on my face, and each bottle lasts several months. Current favourite is Hyaluronic Acid.

Waitrose do a fragrance free range called Pure, and I can use pretty much any of them. They are pleasant and good value for money, but it's a bit hit and miss which are available at any time.

One of the best and cheapest moisturisers I use, particularly if my skin is sore, is food grade, cold pressed, virgin coconut oil. Tiniest of dabs, rubbed between my hands and then transferred to my face. Not even enough to make my face shiny. If it is shiny then I just run my forearms over my face to transfer the oil to them, or blot with tissue. Really soothing. I don't wear makeup, so I don't know whether it affects application, though I don't see why it should as my face isn't greasy from it.

Simple moisturisers are OK, and I used them for years, but I splashed out on a bottle of Clinique a couple of years ago, and have never looked back. Heart attack prices - one bottle costs £20+, never spent so much on any cosmetic before! - but it lasts me well over a year and my skin feels fantastic. Also the water-based gel one does not sting when my skin is sore.

Cerave
I also like the Aveeno calm and restore night cream

Mamai100 · 10/08/2024 01:56

Cosrx snail mucin cream is very hydrating, it was viral on social media but I do feel it's been worth the hype for me. I think it was around a tenner but a little goes a long way.

The big blue pot- Astrid I think it's called!

Sali Hughes has a heavy moisturiser called “cream drench” with Revolution, sold in Boots, it’s excellent.
Get a low cost facial oil to layer over it at night - The Ordinary Rosehip oil is great.

If your budget can stretch, this La Roche Posay one is outstanding.

I live in Denmark to between the v hard water and the very harsh and windy winters my skin can get INSANELY dry and scaly and this stuff sorts it out and stops it coming back, it’s ace
