Frozen musical

My daughter is 3 years old and obsessed with Frozen, she is very calm and can sit through a film. We have bought tickets for the musical as it is ending in Septembre. It is for next week at 2pm. So while in the middle of summer holiday I can imagine it will be full of young age children? Have any of you taken a 3 year old?

We took ours at 3, she loved it and sat through the whole performance!! But children under 4 aren’t officially allowed in (mine is tall for her age) x

Regardless of how they are, I dont think they’re allowed in that young for that kind of show - usually 4/5 so I’d probably ring the theatre to clarify as it’s a long way to go to be turned away.

It’s recommended age 6 and over and not supposed to admit under 4s. The vast majority of 3 year olds won’t sit still and quiet for long enough to not interrupt others and I think it’s really selfish to take young children. I’m also going soon and I hope there are no children who are too young to be there.

modgepodge · 08/08/2024 20:29

My friend took her 3 year old but it does say on the website under 4s won’t be admitted so you may want to prepare yours to lie!! I’m taking my 5 year old, she’s a bit young in my opinion really but I’ve wanted to take her for years and can’t leave it any later due to it closing so we are hoping for the best! Only you know your child - I guess be prepared to leave if she can’t cope…

SwayingInTime · 08/08/2024 20:29

It was full of kids that age and was adorable - especially the little one who shouted out a beat perfect 'happy snowman'!

I went to this and left my 3 year old behind due to the rules - I was then surrounded by 2 and 3 year olds! It felt very relaxed due to the audience due to constant snacks. The 3 year old is now 4 and a half and I might go again with him

I wonder if they’ve relaxed it then as when we went they seemed really strict on it, two families ahead of us weren’t allowed in with their youngest ones (one was 2 ish I’d say and the other only slightly older) and a parent had to stay out with the younger child.

How did they know the ages though? They don't request to bring passport or proof of age? 4 year old can look wildly different in sizes.

They rely on people to be honest. I'm not sure if they challenge anyone though. We went a year ago and we had a child infront of us who was definitely under 4, her mum admitted it. She was constantly moving from her seat to her mum's lap and it whilst it was distracting wasn't the end of the world.

Itsmyshadow · 08/08/2024 21:31

I went today with my 5 year old. In the second half when it was deadly silent she shouted out “why do we have to clap after every song?”. I hope people found it funny.

I heard the odd “can we go home now mummy” but the majority of children sat quietly the whole time and I didn’t notice any I thought would be younger than 4.

I think if your 3 year old can sit quietly and looks closer to 4 they’ll be ok. My 2 year old DS loves Frozen but there’s no why he’d sit still and quietly.

cheddercherry · 08/08/2024 21:35

They didn’t know on sight (although tbh a 2-3 year old is fairly distinct from most 4-6 year old) but they asked outright their ages (I imagine they just check those with kids clearly under 6 since that’s the recommendation) and the parents didn’t lie. Maybe if they’d lied they’d not have been challenged further, or maybe it depends on the staff member with how far they enforce it. There just weren’t any really young kids I noticed when we went that I’d say looked younger than 5 in the actual audience.

RockahulaRocks · 08/08/2024 21:43

I took my 3 years-and-9-month old in April - she loved it. No age checks, no-one side-eyed her or anything, and she certainly didn’t stand out as being substantially smaller/younger than the rest of the audience. She was given a booster cushion so had the best view and was fully engaged with the entire show, barely heard a peep out of her the entire time.

Yes they can look different sizes but generally the way they talk, walk, act, everything changes a lot between 2 and 4. I think you’d struggle to pass most 2 year olds off as 4.

i used to do marketing in shopping centres for a company targeting school age children. The rule of thumb for aging a child was ‘if they’re walking like they’re drunk, they’re too young for school’ 😂

UnicornPug · 09/08/2024 09:00

I was there a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t see any tiny children but most of the audience was kids. They were all well behaved, but there was a lot of talking. (mummy, where has Elsa gone now? /This is the wrong song! / I want Elsa!) I was more bothered by the constant rustling of snacks.

mitogoshi · 09/08/2024 09:16

I be think they say 6 and up though I took mine to west end productions from 3 - however mine were used to sitting still and quiet having attended children's concerts and church services (not children's services) from birth. I took mine to the opera aged 4&6, they loved it (and weren't the only little kids, lots of Italian small children, in Italy of course)
