To ask for Cornwall holiday accommodation recommendations (dog friendly, near a sandy beach)

Sorry, I know this isn't AIBU at all, but I want to draw on the hefty traffic that AIBU attracts!

If you've stayed in a holiday cottage/AirB&B etc in Cornwall that is within walking distance of a nice, sandy, dog friendly beach then please could you kindly add the link here for me?

I'm looking all over the Internet but I'm going round in circles with so many options and I think I'd like to go for something that is recommended so I have a clearer idea of what I'm getting.

If it could not require me to sell a kidney, that would also be great!

This is for summer 2025, ideally about 3 weeks from mid-late July, for 2 adults and 2 children (and one very lovely dog). It doesn't need to be fancy but it does need wifi as I'll be working for some of it.

Thank you so much in advance!

We stayed here 2 years ago. Technically within walking distance of the beach from what I remember but would be walking on roads without paths so not sure how safe it would be, we had a baby at the time so didn't brave it. There was WiFi although doesn't mention it on the link. We booked via Airbnb.

This is the Airbnb link for it if it works.

Mid July, 2 adults, a dog and a beach is always going to be £££ in Cornwall.
What sort of budget?

SpiritOfEdna · 08/08/2024 17:36

At that time of year you will be limited to where you can stay due to dogs not being allowed on the beaches, if you want to be near the beach for the dog. However, Fistral Beach is open to dogs all year, so Newquay would be an option for you.

we’ve also stayed in Starfish Cottage in Charlestown which has access to a private resident’s only beach ( which was handy but fairly small)

In general the North Cornwall beaches are dog friendly all year round. South not so much. We go every year.

Par sands holiday park is pet friendly and so is the beach that is about 10 metres away

Beautiful sandy beach nearby if you don't mind a downhill/uphill walk (about 12 - 15 mins through a wooded area). There are two parts to the beach, one of which is dog-friendly year round. There's other dog-friendly accommodation in this area in the form of chalets/statics if you would consider that instead of a cottage.

Eeeek Par is very bleak and depressing.
Pentewan much nicer and coatal walks galore. Polperro lovely too.

Suggest you try www.aspects-holidays.co.uk they have loads of lovely properties around Sennen Cove etc.

Pentewan is glorious, but dogs are banned on the beach from March to November Sad

Thanks everyone for your suggestions so far. I’ve been researching which beaches are dog friendly, which areas are nice etc, and am really grateful for any links to specific properties that people have stayed in themselves.

There's a lot of choice, all with their own pros and cons, with a wide range of prices, so I think it would be really helpful to me now to learn of the direct experience of a family in a similar position to us - wanting beaches quite close by (but with a dog/s), that found the accommodation nice but not necessarily fancy and ultra expensive, where they had a fab time somewhere and would recommend it/revisit it.

Thanks again.

The beach in Holywell is dog friendly and walkable from park Dean caravan site, or Trevornick site a bit further up that has a variety of accommodation types.

Stayed at both and would definitely return.

I've been using Aspect Holidays for about 10years. The cottages are always excellent. We also have a dog which has changed where we stay. We tend to go to South Cornwall on the Lizard side now, as most of the beaches that way are dog friendly and lovely for kids. Marazion beach is dog friendly at both ends. Sennan is not dog friendly but the beach next to it is. If you book early you can reserve for £40-50 and pay in installments (promise I don't work for them!).

JemimaTab · 08/08/2024 20:44

This may be on the pricier side, but the Headland Hotel at Newquay has self-catering apartments which are very nice and also dog-friendly. The apartments are right next to Fistral Beach, which is also dog-friendly all year. It's a sandy beach known for surfing and is popular with dog walkers and families. We've stayed there a few times (a few years ago) and it's a great spot.

Not quite what you're after but am staying at a campsite a 5 min walk from Portscatho right now. Beach there is ok but small; gorgeous beach another 10 min walk away at Portcurnick. If you can find accommodation close to here I recommend the area. Campsite is also lovely with great facilities.

Alternatively I've stayed at Trebarwith Strand before - rental cottages available very close to the sea, but whilst the beach is lovely, it's fairly small and vanishes when the tide is high. Magical location close to Tintagel Castle.
