To ask whether you can outsource all laundry in London?

I’m going back to work full time and DH works in a very busy role too. We want to maximise our time with our primary age kids. Can you outsource all normal laundry (not dry cleaning)? I’m taking ordinary school uniform, socks, t shirts etc. Neither of us need to wear clothes that need dry cleaning, so looking for a more day to day but super reliable laundry. Does this exist?

If you’ll pay someone will do it!
There are laundry pick up/drop off services or you could get a cleaner & add it to their time?

Excited101 · 08/08/2024 16:04

A cleaner/housekeeper/nanny will do it if it’s specified and the job is taken with that in mind. That’ll probably be your best bet!

Caspianberg · 08/08/2024 16:04

Your probably better off paying for a housekeeper/ cleaner who’s main job is laundry. You could just pay for x amount of
hours a week and they would come to house, sort laundry and wash, change bedding, etc.

strawberry12345 · 08/08/2024 16:05

There’s an app called laundrap

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 08/08/2024 16:05

Well I live in a random town in the north east and the local laundry on the high street does this so I’d be amazed if you can’t.
Just google local laundry near me

SauviGone · 08/08/2024 16:06

I’ll bet it’s cheaper to get a cleaner and make this part of their job.

Ldmk2 · 08/08/2024 16:11

https://hamletlaundry.com/ £17.50 per load (6kg) to wash, dry and fold. I am sure there are many more places who will offer similar.

TravellingT · 08/08/2024 16:22

The agency I used to use in London no longer exists, but we had a cleaner/housekeeper visit every weekday and she did all the laundry for us at home (including taking bedding off etc) and took dry cleaning away etc. It was quite expensive but entirely possible. You can arrange with some dry cleaners/laundrettes for a collection and delivery service but if you want to entirely outsource, look for a cleaner.

https://www.ihateironing.com/services/too one on Google - there are loads

I came on to recommend this - I use it often in winter or if I wind up with a backlog of bedding and towels.

The service is exceptional and I've also had them launder my duvet and a flotaki rug that was looking a bit sorry for itself Smile

Jarstastic · 08/08/2024 16:31

Local laundrettes usually do service washes. Some will pick up and drop off.

If you have £££ you could use Blossom and Browne.

HorizontalNotVertical · 08/08/2024 16:34

Another vote for I Hate Ironing- they’re great. They also do dry cleaning and repairs n

SpaceRaiders · 08/08/2024 16:38

Cleaner/ housekeeper twice a week would be your best bet.

There’s nothing worse than sending clothes away, only to realise at 9pm on a week night that sports kit needed for a match tomorrow still hasn’t been returned.

@SocksAndTheCity how big is your flokati to rug? I have one that really needs a wash but it’s too big for me to do it

I've just had a look back through my order history and they charged me for 3 square metres (I actually thought it was a bit bigger than that).

It cost me £67 a couple of years ago so definitely more now, but they did a really good job.

BlackBean2023 · 08/08/2024 17:02

Our local laundrette does a service wash and delivery service for £16 per black sack worth of washing. When my kids move out I am never doing washing again.

Thank you! Mine just fits in the big machine at a launderette - but because it’s so packed in doesn’t wash properly. The only other option is the bath 😬

ManchesterLu · 08/08/2024 17:26

If you're comfortable money wise I would probably get a housekeeper. That way they could deal with laundry and any cleaning that needed to be done, and you wouldn't need to worry about it. If I had a little more disposable income, that's definitely how I would spend it.

jay55 · 08/08/2024 17:31

Ive used laundrapp in the past and it was brilliant, my undies came back in a box and everything was folded ready to put away. Just handed them a big bag of washing.

Where I live they promote laundryheap and people say it's good.

Merryoldgoat · 08/08/2024 17:34

I used Laundryheap when our machine was broken. Didn’t like how it smelled when it came back (no fabric conditioner) but otherwise it was fine.

Bettergetthebunker · 08/08/2024 17:36

We used to have our cleaner who moved on but she did washing and ironing. You could leave it in a bag and she would bring it back folded

Rosecoffeecup · 08/08/2024 17:36

Another rec for ihateironing - have used them a few times and it's a piece of piss. 24 hour turnaround, early and late pick up times, you can change slots last minute if you need to.
