It's a DH being a dick one....

DH works 5 days a week 9 - 5
I work 3 x 12 hour shifts and then a 6 hour shift too. Both of us midweek only.

I've recently taken up going to the gym 2 nights a week for an hour, DH does his hobby on a set night but for longer.

I knew he had the hump today when he got home. I had done everything housework wise with the kids at home to entertain too. Only thing was I asked him to serve the kids dinners so I could make my gym class.

I've just come back and he's moaning that he has to make sure he's home in time for my class and still has to get the kids tea and bath/bed done.

Who's being the dickhead here?

Him.

It's only twice a week I don't see the problem other than him thinking anything to do with the home and children is women's work. You both work full time I bet he doesn't do half of everything else

SauvignonBlonk · 06/08/2024 20:52

Him.

OneTC · 06/08/2024 20:52

Him by the sounds of it

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 06/08/2024 20:54

You work 42 hours a week, he works 40
says it all really.

DisgruntledPelican · 06/08/2024 20:55

Him. Any sort of huffing and sighing about things like this would get my back up.

SauviGone · 06/08/2024 20:55

On the face of it, he is.

But how many nights a week is he doing tea, bath and bed for the kids?

I’m assuming he also does it on the 3 nights you’re working your 12 hour shifts.

The kids go to my parents for dinner when I'm on my shifts, so he picks them up and brings them home for bath/bed. The eldest two are pretty self sufficient.

Is it the timing of class that’s the problem
not the fact you are going to the class

I used to struggle and find it incredibly stressful to get home bang on time

redskydarknight · 06/08/2024 21:02

What's the normal split of housework/childcare (appreciating you won't have an "average" week)?

I do agree with PP, that I expect it's the having to rush home and go straight into sorting tea and doing bedtime that's more the problem than the class per se. I suspect you never have to do this with your work hours and i think most working parents find this hard. Is there a class at a different time you could go to?

cowboybootsonglassfloor · 06/08/2024 21:06

My week consists (on top of work) of school runs 2 x a week, meal planning, food shopping (online), meal prep, cleaning bathrooms and kitchen, washing/drying (I don't iron).
DH is good for doing washing and hoovering off his own back and he walks the dog, he's not lazy. He does the DIY.

I have to ask him to take the bins out but that's another story 🤣

So neither of you ever make the kids dinner? But he's moaning because the 2 nights that you would be making dinner, he now needs to make it? Is that right? If that's right, was he OK when it was going to be you doing it 2 nights a week and him 0?

Choochoo21 · 06/08/2024 21:24

If you were at home all day, did you put the tea on or did he need to cook it?

If he’s literally just serving it up then he’s being a twat.

If he had to cook it all and you’ve been at home all day, then I can see why he’d be a bit pissed off.

Noseybookworm · 06/08/2024 23:33

He is. Feeding his own children and putting them to bed twice a week is hardly a massive chore. Tell him to get a bloody grip!

Geppili · 06/08/2024 23:46

He is being a Dick. Book a long weekend away soon, without him or kids.
