Baffled And Confused

The lawyer of the two men who were involved in the incident at Manchester Airport last week, this morning held a press conference with TV cameras present. The two men who were involved in the fracas with the police were there accompanied by their mother who the lawyer claimed was also injured. This was a fully fledged press conference which their lawyer said was being held to give 'context' to the allegations that the men attacked the police. He went on to give this 'context' in great detail, giving an almost minute by minute account of the situation unfolding,of course all from their point of view with no mention whatsoever of the police being violently attacked or a policewoman suffering a broken nose. I was really shocked to see this, gobsmacked really. Surely this would prejudice any upcoming trial,or are the men not going to be prosecuted? This lawyer used some incredibly inflammatory language and seemed to be accusing the police of racially motivated brutality. Under the current tinder box climate in the UK I really don't think this is helpful, but more than that who gave permission for this press conference to take place? I've never seen anything like it with a so called ongoing police investigation.

They've done this BECAUSE of the riots to appeal to the public conscience while everyone's disgusted by the rioters.

@gizatwirl where did you see it? Is it on BBC or Sky? Ta.

I believe they have changed lawyers and are reiterating their victimhood.

I would think it makes it more difficult to find a jury if one is needed. Human rights lawyer now. However if they did punch a policewoman, there’s no hiding from that. The in flight allegation is besides the point except the sons went after the alleged perpetrator in the airport. Hence the police being involved. Why Qatar airways didn’t deal with this is a mystery. Aircraft can be met by police. If a passenger is assaulted, this would be normal. Instead the family took it into their own hands.

If they haven't been charged (and they won't, if it's an on-going investigation), then they've done nothing wrong. Anyone can call a press conference, you don't need permission. The lawyers will be well aware of the law. And it's in their own interests to muddy the waters as much as possible before any potential trial.

I agree with the in flight allegation being beside the point but I was just shocked that they would be able to hold such a press conference. I don't live in UK so is this a thing now? Can anyone who finds themselves potentially on the wrong side of the law just get their lawyer to go to the media on their behalf and put a lot of material that may be used at trial out there? I've never seen anything like it.
